    How to register dota2 protocol

Ok, I spent about 1.5 hours figuring out how to do it, so I want to share this knowledge, maybe it will help someone.

If you can't get links like dota2://matchid=66135569 to work, you just need to save following text as a .reg file and execute it.
    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dota2]
    @="URL:dota2 Protocol"
    "URL Protocol"=""

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dota2\shell]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dota2\shell\open]

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\dota2\shell\open\command]
    @="\"C:\\Program Files (x86)\\Steam\\steam.exe\" -applaunch 570 \"%1\""
    Cheers!

UPD: by the way, it will also allow you to open these links even when your dota 2 is not running! As far as I know, usual settings just start dota2.exe, but you need to start it from steam in order to connect to servers and stuff.

Can you elaborate what you exactly are doing with that .reg file?

When in game but not in a match, you can use dota2:// links in windows start menu START->RUN to tell dota to automatically download a replay and play it.

That's how the replay feature works on dotabuff.com. Some players said they can't run dota replay links and windows pops the find associated program windows. His info fixes that.

(it works when dota is offline too but it starts in a "weird" mode, at least on my PC; I prefer to do it while the game is running; you can also tell the difference by the red - instead of blue - loading screen)
