    Exclamation DotA2 on Steam from Ubuntu via Wine: Problem since last update

    The following bug report is a x-post and it looks we are many having this issue. I didn't know about this forum before.



    Hi,

    I am using wine (installed from playonlinux and its ppa on ubuntu 12.04 LTS).
    I did it since DotA2 is not availaible on Steam on linux.
    I run DotA2 with the launching option "-nod3d9ex" (supose to diseable some directX things that wine can't handle or something like that).
    It is working well, I did about fifty hours of games.

    Thursday, after 1 or 2 games, I entered a game where nobody was able to buy item, someone deconnected and says he updated and should works. I deconnect then, and can see steam downloading updates.
    I relaunch DotA2 when it is done and i have as usual the steam popup that says: "Preparation au lancement de DotA 2", but then I have a windows popup with a title of "Launcher Error", a "OK" button and with the message:
    Failed to load the launcher DLL:
    Message 0x%1 not found in file %2
    I tryed to verify the data of the game in the property tab local, with succes, but I keep having this issue. I even tryed to reinstall DotA2, not working too.


    (NB: in this screenshot of the popup, it is ubuntu 'ambiance' styled because I have added a msstyle into wine windows property)

    Any help welcomed !


    EDIT: I just tryed now, and it asked me to wait the end of news updates beore the launch, i waited, but still have the issue :/


    NB: WAS WORKING BEFORE THE UPDATE


    PS: Please tell me if I am posting this in the wrong place (sub-forum/website/?), I really want to have this issue solved.

    It is same issue with "DotA2 Test"

    I try to get more information to get this fixed, I found this from playonlinux.log:

    I can confirm that. Tried the common workarounds regarding similar errors (verifying integrity, deleting bin folders, reinstalling the whole game etc.; nothing wine specific though), none of it worked.

    can you confirm that sosi waginu wenok 's solution works ? (I can't make it :'( )

    Hi,

    This is how we can fix it from wine:

    1. If youu are not using PlayOnLinux, launch wine-setting
    Else follow these 2 step:
    a.
    b.

    Me too, just don't select it, write it into the text input and follow the step-by-step, hope it works for you

    DotA2 crashing everytime I clic [Accept] a game, this happened too once when I was scrolling the quest map.

    Hello !

    I'm using Wine as well to play on Dota2, I don't see any problem launching the game with this new update. I haven't played any game yet, but for now, everything is okay =)
