fog of war and unexplored area are the same color
this is a big problem if you play a blinker or teleporter like am/qop/furion, you want to blink out of a fight at very low HP and it gives you the message: "can't reach to unexplored area" while you die.

I agree. It was much easier to tell in DotA. Unexplored areas should be noticeably darker.

+1 of course, but srsly, imo this unexplored area shit shouldn't even be in this game anymore. I dunno if it was a bug or not in starcraft, but plz exclude this from the game. If the problem is tping with furion to the enemy base or this kind of stuff, just make it so he can't use his TP in there... EZ. And if the problem would be this as a pottential "buff" to QoP and Magina, I just really don't get it, because you could just send the courier to some places early game to enable the blinking to that place. (and other stuff that you could do)

it would be an big buff to furion, he could just tp and kill courier, tp and kill a guy that is low hp that would have escaped otherwise

I think it's not a totally pointless mechanic. It makes early chasing harder, as the unexplored areas are the ones closer to the opposing base. Players can expend effort to explore the area and negate this advantage, laying the ground for easy chasing later... but it takes away time you (or your courier) could be doing other things. It's an interesting choice and elements of skill are involved.

BUT it definitely needs to be obvious whether or not an area is explored.

...which he already can since there is plenty of time to run around with summons before the game starts (in conjunction with allied heroes). This was (when I played DotA 1 years ago) pretty much standard practice even in the lowest pub games since people could see a difference between the two.

I don't care either way, but having them look exactly the same (I can't see any difference at least) is just plain bad design.

there is a slight difference between unexplored area(black) and fog-of-war(grey), but you can't even really tell the difference, +1 I have been a victim of such thing *sniff*

I'm slight colorblinded... so to me there is no difference... also in most games the color blind option wont help me so I believe that when this feature comes up it wont help me either... so I really need it to be darker :(

you should be able to blink into unexplored areas, but not teleport.

It just causes so many annoing situations if you try to blink into trees etc. you have a very narrow path in the trees you can blink to. (if you've been there!)

Pointless having to explore the paths between trees in every single game! if you want to blink there.

In other words, i think the "UPs" of changing it outweighs the "DOWNs"!.

+1 to OPs suggestion! I even saw a stream of Dendi dying because of this issue^^ Please do not remove the FoW completly, its a part of dota imho. I think to remember you could have removed it in Wc3 as well. Yes some were right saying " You can scout with courier early".... then do it! Risk your valuable pet :)

I have a proposed compromise for this that would not require heavy coding of the game.

For heroes affected by the unexplored areas, simply give them a modified mini-map to indicate areas explored. Give it a second layer of fog or "exploration fog" in the minimap on top of the existing fog of war.

It may sound new for regular players but the idea works.

I'm yet to see any negative feedback in actual games. Players seem to be enjoying the change. Just waiting for it to be implemented in DOTA2.

Great this annoying unexplored fog is removed now! It was so annoying trying to TP somewhere and get those red annoying message. It was gamebreaking, I'm so glad it's gone.

I think this thread should be closed now. If there will be some bugs with fog of was there will be new threads for them anyway.

Absolutely +1 for this ... Dota 1 had clear visual effects and I was able to see clearly what was happening in a gank compared to dark map background in Dota 2 ....

1) Need to distinguish between fog and unexplored area (for this map background seems very dark like HON ..... Dota 1 map colors were better)
2) I feel Dota 2 visual is clustered and difficult to see in team fights especially during sand ulti and sandstorm ... screen visual is not as clear as Dota 1.

do you realize that even the time that you posted this, unexplored fog of war had been removed from dota and dota 2 for a few weeks already? there is nothing to distinguish from fog anymore, as there is literally no mechanic for unexploed fog
