Is there going to be a drop cap like in TF2? I hated that honestly and would prefer it not happen for this game.

I really hope not, the limit on TF2 items demotivated me from playing and then I just stopped outright. It makes it feel as though you're wasting time playing the game compared to when you can get items.

Especially considering that DOTA2's are much more limited in that it's only a few people that get an item, rather than guaranteed every hour or so.

But I'll be happy with a limit so long as they keep that horrible Metal system out.

I'd prefer it as well if a drop cap wasn't implemented as well though I somewhat understand the rationale behind one. It was a bit of a turn-off about Team Fortress 2 as well for me. Especially when I started out; I felt I was at a disadvantage there. Thankfully that won't be present here or else we'd have major balance issues.

Also, I haven't seen this question asked, so I thought I'd ask here. Do items drop from winning bot games too? I know you receive an item for leveling up. Just curious since I do believe you get them from TF2 bot games at least.

So I guess you didn't play TF2 before the drop update? Or any game without rewards? :p

Are you planning on adding a drop cap in the future?

Not right now. We'll keep a close eye on how things unfold, but right now there's no cap.

Uhm can someone explain what this drop cap is/was in TF2?

Uhm can someone explain what this drop cap is/was in TF2? It's a limit to the amount of items you can get per week. Right now you can get an unlimited amount of items as long as you keep playing.

Uhm can someone explain what this drop cap is/was in TF2?

Basically, when the number of drops you had found in a week exceeded a specific number, your drop rate would sharply decrease. The purpose of this was to combat idlers who were abusing the drop system, as well as give players who played more "casually" a better chance to find items.

well dota 2 doesn't have idle servers atm, so I guess its not needed right now

I don't think that the cap would be necesary, there can't be something like idle servers in the game. And idling in a regular match wouldn't work because you actually need to participate to get a chance to win an item at the end. And in any case the only thing that you could get by idling would be a pass into the low priority, or maybe even out of the beta.
Edit: maybe it could be used to moderate the time players spend in the game, but there isn't too many who (want or can) play dota for too many hours in a row.

There is no drop cap in DOTA 2.
Super great news. Since unlike TF2 there is no way to idle for drops I don't see the point of having one. The more you play the more you earn. Super fair and super awesome. I love you sometimes Valve.
