  • Issues regarding Bots after [ Latest Update ].

    Had an AI game earlier after the patch.

    Game Setup
    Game Mode :All Pick
    Bot Difficulty: Unfair
    Version : Latest

    Apparently there's a few problem that I will list down below:
    • During an Enemy push, Allied Bots do not rush to defend the base in time, and instead roam around.


    Details: Happened when opposing AIs were pushing my bottom lane, and I was killed. The remaining 4 bots were scattered at the top lanes, Dire NCs, running around. Even repeated Pings on the bottom base was futile.
    • When enemy creeps entered the base, after the barracks have fallen, allied bots avoid killing the creeps. Instead, they walk back and forth within a few units.


    Details: After the bottom base had fallen, allied bots proceed into the base. However, they failed to do anything to the invading bot creeps, and instead proceed to the other lanes. If I were to ping them towards the creep, they would proceed to the location, but immediately turn tail and back off to other lanes. And in the process, if they were to be hit by the creeps, they would run towards them and then back off abruptly ( effectively doing nothing but patrol ).
    • There was an instance where Enemies Bots rushed in all the way to the fountain to kill me.


    Details: It began from a chase at my bottom base. Enemy Bots chased after me, all the way into the fountain. To sum it up, Zeus and Windrunner died getting killed by the fountain. And immediately after I got killed IN THE FOUNTAIN, they retreated.


    I believe all these weren't intended? Because... having a whole team rushing into the fountain just to kill me... is.... Ridiculous.

    I must say after the recent update 02/16/2012 bots do not react at all to pings on the map. They just sit on their lane or tp somewhere else lol.

      No responce to pings either and I hardly ever had a ally in my own lane. Also played with OD.
      VALVE please make a punishment system that punishes the offenders... not the team. Also ever heard about communication? Try it. It might solve a lot of debates/questions here on the forum.

        I've noticed specifically with bots in late game, they're prioritizing jungle farm and lane pushing far more than defending base. When it's obvious the opposition is pushing T3 tower I notice allied bots disregard the pushing team and continue to farm/push. I wouldn't so much call it "roaming" as they're not really roaming, but jungle farming. Their team shouldn't be able to take out 2 towers and 4 rax without so much as a peep from the other team, who is all still alive.

        Kudos on the team fights though, much better than before.

        I don't disagree that they shouldn't dive right in on the fountain, but chasing back to the exterior of its range isn't necessarily a bad thing. It happens quite a bit, even in pro matches. I do notice that some bots have managed to stay outside of range (Razor, Zeus, Lina, Crystal Maiden), but the melee heroes dive right in and throw safety out the window.

          Due to the overemphasis on jungle farming, the bots on the player's team are even more stupendously useless than before.

                The system was basically redone from the ground up, in a way the progress of bot development was basically reset in certain area's hence they're worse than they used to be. However, now that they've got the new system in place they can make them much better than they used to be.
                At least, that's what Chris posted a while ago.

                I do agree though that the bots are inherently clunky in this game, they're too 'programmed'. I don't know if this is simply because the AI is still in early states or if this is because of the way they're coded and will not change.
                For one, as I mentioned in another thread, I know for a fact that bots directly utilize player input such as right clicks on them, which absolutely wrong. I hope that that's only temporary as a quick way to add some things and that they'll stop using player input as a source of 'whats going on' in the future. Player input can in some cases be extremely contradictory, it's very bad to rely on it for anything.

                    do your part and find the flaws and put some suggestion instead of berating

                    - the bots are now much improved if you look from the allies perspective, they are much more dependable now if compared to last week, however there are still much more work that needs to be done to make it better

                      Sorry, but at the rate of bots are developing, we will see the US debt being solved first before bots are at WC3 bot standard. Or even LoL or HoN standard.

                      Bots still die like shit to all the mass AOE stuns. Heroes like CM, WR, Zeus are all tremendous burden while heroes like Sven, ES and TH are just stomping their way.

                      Then you add this stupid bug where bots don't bother defending. I managed to trigger the same bug to the enemy team, and I ended up destroying all three barracks, without anyone defending.

                      Ally bots are not even trustworthy. After they get to about level 7-10, they leave your lane, leaving you to lane against 2 enemy bots. I wouldn't mind that, but something worse even happened. They roam all the way to bot, find the top tower being sieged then TP to top. The enemy bots retreat upon seeing so many of my allies. Then my dumb ally bots do the same shit again, roam all the way to bot, without gaining any level, any gold, any kills.

                      Blargh, why the hell am I saying so much. Bot state is a piece of shit, worse than what Syria is going through.

                        from your post you already stated a few problems with the bots which is good for development for the bots

                        AI in Dota 2 can be quite complex since there are alot of variables but with the community help, we can try to make the bot at least as good as DotA or even better

                            On the other comments in the thread: I'll look into why they aren't responding to defend pings. It's possible that they don't think they can get there in time to help. As always, screenshots are helpful for debugging these situations.
