  • bots choose bad lanes

I got extremely frustrated today, because of how good bots are at last hitting, but how bad they are at choosing lanes. I wanted to try out meepo in a practice custom lobby, and I went bot lane as radiant. The bots decide to put sniper in lane with me, and move lich top with windrunner. Now because this is a bot game I wouldn't be too annoyed, but the sniper was getting every single last hit because of his perfect timing. I dont want to go top lane because that is not what meepo really does often, but no matter how many times i recreated the game, they would always send a carry with me bot, and send a support top.

This makes it almost impossible to play your lane correctly, and it is very frustrating. There must be a way to tell which bot to go to which lane, or have them be more intelligent in either supporting or carrying the player based on his pick.

    What do you guys think?

Yeah I think it could be improved.

They don't see Meepo as a carry, and they want to put their carry in the safe lane.

I guess I'm not sure what the right strategy is here -- maybe not pair a human player with a carry unless they're playing a support hero?

It's hard to say. Maybe that would be a good solution in every case except when a human is playing a support hero.
So if a human is playing a carry, ganker, or pusher they will get their own support hero, but if they're playing a support or baby-sitter they will be given a carry.
        This ain't ova.

Maybe an option like in dota 1 AI games to command an ally bot to switch to another lane?
When the bot came to the appropriate lane he would stay and someone else from that lane leave.

What about a command added to the bot games that changes your faming priority? This would not only solve this problem by setting your farming priority as #2 so that Sniper does not follow you and could come handy if you are playing a support like ES or SK and need those 5 minutes to farm your dagger so you set your priority as #1 so that your team lets you farm and then you just set it back at #4 when you are done.

+1, this sounds like a great option. Not only would it make it easier to practice farming with carries, but it would finally make it possible to learn support heroes in bot games.

This sounds like it would definitely be harder to implement, especially in terms of making sure it doesn't completely screw up the current bot logic. It definitely seems viable, though, and it would give more control over picking who you specifically want to lane with.

I'd love the option to tell a bot to go to a certain line. Like you select him and ping a tower for the lane you want him to head towards.

The same could be applied to targets: at times bots act so stupidly, following their target for the whole map without realizing there's another enemy right behind them who could die in a couple hits. You try to ping him but nothing happens :E

@like45ninjas actually meepo is played a lot on lanes that aren't really safe. You generally won't be farming a lot or anything till level 6, it's just about reaching the level and not about getting core items. After that the jungle is yours and you explode in farm...

I agree that it should be changed to get a support hero on your lane unless you are a supporter yourself, but when almost all heroes are ported as bots there should be some more specification on what should lane with what. Maybe even go as far as to recognize a Leshrac on top lane as radiant and send a CK, SK or SD to the top lane.

Allow players to "chose" their hero role at hero selection, so bots behave accordingly. I want to test a carry Lich, lemme do it, it's a bot match.

In fact, a great improvement should be to allow the player also select his/her team's roles (not the bots themselves, but to select bot roles: "I pick a carry, I want 2x support, 1x jungler and 1x semi-carry")
"+1. This is no WC3 DotA. Evolve or return to your cave."

This wouldn't be bad, but I'd want some numbering system in terms of who is going to get farm. Being able to assign your carries/gankers to 1-2 and supprt/gankers to 3-5 in farm importance would be a great feature.
