  • Make bot games not default to Hard bots

I've been playing a number of bot games on this account in order to practice new heroes. Ever since those extra keys were sent there is at least one complete newbie in every bot match who clearly never played Dota before (no items, don't leave the base until 5 minutes later while not being afk, buy troll items like boots first or 10 clarity potions, no TP or courier use, etc). These people are actually considerate enough to queue up for some bot games first before diving into PvP, only to get stomped by the Hard bots and lose hope.

The last guy actually talked and listened to advice (and was lucky enough to have picked morphling) but what about the 0-2 ragequit antimage who walked into the lane and into tower range at level 1, the CK who was afk wrestling with the shop most of the time until he got an abandon, the 0-11 WD, the guy who seemingly accidentally selected a leaver Huskar and just played as Huskar for the remainder of the match, etc. I'm pretty sure at least some of those gave up on the game right there and they definitely didn't willingly queue up for a Hard bot game.

This may be because bot games default to Hard and if the newbie does not pay attention he will end up in a Hard bot game. It may be easy to call the newbie an idiot for not noticing the difficulty setting, but a new game is always a bit overwhelming and you can't blame people for pressing the big CO-OP button and assuming the defaults are ok...

    I agree wholeheartedly.

        +1 as well.

As a side note, every time you log in, you need to change the settings for co-op bot difficulty back to passive/easy/medium, otherwise it will default back to hard without changing the displayed difficulty under the Play tab.

I queued with my brother for a few easy co-op bot matches, found that the bots were really aggressive, even chasing us back to our tier 3 towers while the tier 1s were still up. A few times people fed and gave the bots gold and level advantage, and just assumed that was why were were losing. They started to 5 man gank the lanes and tear us down, and they were really good at chain stunning (SK, Sven, and Lich one right after another), and pretty much shut us down every team fight. It said Easy every time we queued, when I went to change the settings it said that it was on Hard. We tried an Easy match and it was super simple to win, then tried a hard match and it was just as it was before.

TL;DR - Co-op Bot match settings display as easy, but seem to actually be on hard.

Actually "Hard" is "Normal" difficulty, it's just a tag problem.

You can read about it here http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=19027

          Normal
Reaction times for ability/item usage range from 50-75ms.
          The baseline difficulty.
          All features are enabled.
Bots do not cheat (with a couple minor exceptions).

-1 from me, bots are still terrible in my opinion, making the bot standard even easier is not a good aproach for newbies

Just saying but I don't think newbies (very fresh newbie) should be playing DotA 2 yet because it's still beta.

When I remember my WcIII times, when I played dota for the first time I had problems like this.
I basically bought recipes because I thought it was the item :S

But those who have problems like that, not being familiar with the shop etc. should play some solo games vs. Bots.

Nevertheless I would like that my game "remembers" my last settings, since I for myself just play against bots on the highest lvll (unfair?!), because these bots can last hit and deny close to normal players ( even tho their playstyle is still a bit akward)

+1 for remembering Bot settings, should not be that hard to implement

Exactly. How did they even get an invite? I would never waste my dota2 invite on someone who doesn't know what's going on and clearly have never played wc3 dota since there are still decent players that need these invites.

Hey, I never played DotA, LoL or HoN before and got a direct invite from Valve
It works as long as you are interested enough to read some tutorials/guide in the internet as Dota2 is lacking this info right now.

Why not practice your new heroes on unfair?

You can't blame people for starting on the normal difficulty.

Why shouldn't newbies be playing, exactly? Part of the issue with Dota 1 is how hilariously inaccessible it is. Dota 2 is as simple as having a key and steam installed. Bot games facilitate that.

Being able to choose difficulty would be nice for newer players. I think the bots are still pretty clueless, but they're getting there. It's more interesting to play against them than it was a couple months ago, anyway.

That's exactly why we need people like him in the beta. If everybody played bot matches on nothing but Unfair problems like this would go unnoticed for quite a while.
The more diverse sets of people we have testing the game the better the overall product becomes.

If all the people playing the beta (and thus providing feedback about the game) were purists with 5 years of WC3 DotA experience, the game would be hilariously shit for new players when it gets released, Valve gets no money because of this, and the game dies.

                          Yeah, sounds fucking awesome, right?

Not to mention the community would be as putrid and anti-fun as HoN.
