  • Can you change the bot names?

I was looking through the files for a place to change the bot names, but on cursory glance couldn't find one, but I tend to look too quickly, so I was wondering if anybody else found it. I want to switch them from saying Morty Bot to Na'Vi Dendi, and other pros, just for kicks, it'd be even better if you could have each character have a pool of names to choose from, so each would have one of many signature names to it

Can't you tell? They're already named after legendary Dota pros like Ester and Fran.

He's talking about modding, it wouldn't get to the official game.

I couldn't find it anywhere either though...

After looking about if it's possible on TF2, it gave the result I expected: The names are in the .dll files of the game, it's likely the situation is the same for Dota 2, which means you cannot edit them, not without spending about 1000x the effort of changing something as easy as the npc_heroes.txt file anyhow.

Thanks for trying anyway, I was so hoping we could use the power of mods for this. Alas, we must go back to making our bots different

-1 this would only cause problems. Other than the fact it might be "fun" to change their names to pro players, as it is a lot of people are falling for fake maphacks on Youtube because of bot matches. Making it so they don't have "bot" in their name will only make it even easier for the attackers to fool people into thinking the hack is real.

Being entirely honest, if you fall for any sort of maphack claims no matter how well done, you deserve whatever are the consequences.

As long as it added bot onto the end of it then that would be fine.

Not everyone is computer literate. Simply because they don't understand something doesn't mean they deserve to be punished for it.

I would pray that the comment section of a video would have some nice people noting it isn't real, additionally, this behavior would occur either way, people will abuse other people's naivety no matter what the realm, I would hardly say that this would do anything to change that for better or worse. Plus, if people do think a fake hack is real, I'm pretty sure they will stand corrected pretty quickly and then it won't matter. On top of all that, I've been a member/creeper in the bot forum for a very long time, most of the people here are interested in making the game better, and if they can have some added enjoyment for helping move a part of a game forward that they're passionate about, it seems absurd to deny them that right because a few bad people spoil it for everyone.
