  • Suggestion - Bot Team Balance

A real point of frustration with solo bot playing is that the teams are rarely balanced. Being new to DOTA, I find myself more angry as I play each game while trying to learn how the different Heroes play. Here's an example of team comp problems when I decided to work on build options for Queen of Pain:

    wtf_valve.png

What in the world is my team of pacing* bots supposed to do? My team would do one of two things: They would run in to die at every opportunity as they were permanently stunned by the 3 initiators (+ Vengeful Spirit). Alternatively, they would stand behind the towers pacing* until the 3 initiators dove the tower (or fountain) and killed them all.

In my opinion, for bot fills, a "standard" team comp should be enforced.

    * Another issue entirely - What's with bots not having a clue what to do and just pacing behind the tower? All these 1v5 battles aren't really helping me learn how the game is supposed to function for the sake of being a good tester.

Haha yeah, that team of Tidehunter, Kunkka, Tiny, Earthshaker, Vengeful Spirit, etc. is a big one that I always see picked :P Just give VALVe some time to work out their whole bot AI - It's a new system, of course there will be problems.

Also just take into consideration that you are not in the Dota 2 Beta to learn DotA. You are here to test features, and if your only goal is too learn I would suggest going elsewhere (DotA, LoL, HoN) and learning there - Then coming back. Dota 2 is in early beta, things are going to be glitchy as hell and it will be a pain in the ass to learn :P Just a word of advice

You shouldn't get mad at AI bots which are still in Beta phase.
Devs are still trying to optimize the bot's general behavior before moving into a deeper phase, that's the usual SDLC.

If you would like to learn the game, feel free to add me as a friend, as I usually play with two of my friends against bots as one of them is new too.
At least you'll have 3 human players to assist and guide you.

Well, bot picks are currently completely random, so sometimes you do get really odd teams. There's no picking logic right now, partially due to the small pool of heroes the bots can pick from currently.

Odd team is not a problem, as odd team composition poses odd challenges xD

Once difficulty is added it wouldn't be hard to enforce a negative feedback loop - if on the winning team, decrease difficulty. This would keep things on a level pegging pretty well, and would allow for people who find bots too easy to have a bit more of a challenge.

If you are forced to play alone, try to follow whatever stupid plan your bots are doing. You can ping your towers and they defend them, also you can ping certain heroes so they chase them, but I've not found a good way to force them to initiate a fight, and if you initiate sometimes they don't follow. So just do whatever they are doing, and don't be the one initiating the fight.

Yea I just ping to get them to defend. And try not to be clustered with your allies. Tidehunter and Kunkka's ultis will make you pay. Never initiate, just stay a bit back and wait for the stunner bots to do their job. When it works, you get amazing results.

Especially those who are new to Dota

and like eck said, let the initiator bots do the initiating, or only go in after enemy's initiator are done stunning.

I appreciate the play advice, but it seems pretty much everyone missed the point.

The title of this section is Bots - Bugs and Suggestions. This is a suggestion for something that would make sense in the game.

Also, to the first reply, it's rather odd that your advice is basically, "lol you don't need to know how to play the game to test and find bugs lol gtfo lol". I know how to test and find bugs. I do it for my full-time job. That has nothing to do with this thread or forum section, though. Telling someone to leave when he/she is being very constructive and clear is counter-productive to a testing environment.

I wasn't hating on Valve. I dig em. The filename of the attached pic was just what I typed when I took the screenshot.
