  • [Confirmed] Gyrocopter's Homing Missile

    Summary:

Enemies can see the rocket as soon as it is planted, according to playdota they are supposed to see it 1 second after it starts moving (http://www.playdota.com/heroes/gyrocopter)

    Repro:

    1) Create a custom lobby, get a friend in.
    2) Fire Rocket from Uphill where he cannot see you
    3) He sees the rocket as soon as it is dropped (at least he told me that)

    Expected Result:

Enemy gains vision over the rocket 1 second after it starts moving.

Hm is this fixed? Because you can still see gyrocopter when he casts the spell. But don't you always see a hero casting a spell on you (like attacks) or is gyrocopter an exception?

You don't always see the hero when he used a skill.
You always see the hero when he attacks you.

You always see the hero if it is a unit-targetted ability (which Homing missile is). If it is a ground-targetted or universal ability you don't.

Hm yeah that is kinda what my question is. Because it is said on PD forums that you will see the missile 1 second after launch. Anyone remembers if you saw gyro when he casted the ability or not in dota 1?

i'm pretty sure pd is right on this one.
afterall hm is not a spell cast on the target like lightning strike or finger of death.
it doesnt affect the target directly.

Okey so the correct behavior would be that if Gyro casts the homing missile from the fog the enemy hero wont be able to see the missile until 1 second after launch? With other words Gyro wont reveal his position when homing missile is casted. Because right now Gyro is revealed directly when casting Homing Missile (I have tested). Someone should really test this in dota 1 though.

                  you guys are right.
gyrocopter is indeed revealed on cast in wc3 dota.
the rocket however is not revealed until it starts flying.

So... There was no issue from the beginning.
                    1. The Gyrocopter (not the Rocket) gets briefly revealed for casting a targeted spell.
                    2. Then everything gets behind covered by the fog once again.
                    3. And then 1 second after the Rocket gets launched this time the Rocket provides its target vision.

Any chance you could test this in WC3? I just tried it, and it had some odd behavior. I wouldn't see the rocket till it had been 1 second in flight, and I never would see the rocket prior to that, only Gyrocopter.

I tested this half a dozen of times with the same result. It may have been related to positioning.

It is not that W3 DotA doing something extra to hide the Rocket. It is just that Rocket doesn't get planted right beneath the Gyrocopter on W3 DotA, but it is planted right beneath the Gyrocopter on Dota 2.
Here is a 6.75b Test Map testing video for you my friend:

If there is any issue, then it should be that the Rocket is being planted right beneath the Gyrocopter on Dota 2. Other than that, everything is working just fine.

but you can clearly see in your dota 2 video that the missile is initially revealed which isnt the case in wc3 dota (there the gyro is revealed).

                            ...

At the beginning, when Gyrocopter is casting:
It does not reveal the Rocket on both versions.
It reveals the Gyro briefly on both versions.
While revealing the Gyrocopter, it reveals a small AoE around the Gyrocopter, resulting in unintentionally revealing the units in that AoE along with the Gyro.

But the Rocket is planted right beneath the Gyrocopter on Dota 2, which is not the case on W3 DotA.
On W3 DotA, the Rocket is planted a little away from the Gyrocopter.
Which is apparently not within the reveal AoE, therefore not revealing the Rocket at the mean time.

Like I've said... If there is any issue, then it isn't about the revealing mechanics.
The issue is just that there is a discrepancy between the spots where the Rocket is being planted on both versions.

Additional video to confirm my point about "revealing the Gyrocopter" does not mean that revealing the Gyrocopter only, but granting a small AoE vision around him:

Not only this my friend, in Dota 2 it reveals twice, as you mentioned:
When rocket is dropped (intended as wc3).
When rocket starts the chase (this dont happens in wc3).
