  • [Confirmed] Sticky napalm incorrect trigger rules

    Summary:

Sticky napalm should only trigger on 34+ 38+ damage [45+ 50+ against non-heroes] (after reductions) and should be able to trigger off items. NOTE: FIREFLY IS AN EXCEPTION!!!! It should work regardless of everything else.

    Repro:

    1) Pick bat, enable wtf and get sticky napalm (stay at level 1)
    2) Pick any enemy hero and give them 6 platemails
    3) SPAM NAPALM! Then hit them

    Result:

    Sticky napalm is triggered

    Expected result:

    Not triggered.

This is also an issue with radiance and enemies with negative magic resist (it should work, currently doesn't at all)

Also shivas against a hero with insane magic resist shouldn't trigger it (visage with a rubick on his team and a hood), but it still does...

Blash, this should be renamed on the bugs sticky - Sticky napalm incorrect trigger rules

because it currently never triggers from radiance (when it should - given magic damage amplification)

It was only there to prevent napalm triggering from radiance.

I guess this is an intentional fix. Including the behaviour Wyn-Ryder explained.

Well... I will check blademail tonight, as that's a reasonably large difference if that doesn't proc. I wouldn't be so quick to call this intended though.

This has further implications... Think of rubick stealing napalm... How do you decide which skills trigger napalm and which don't? I'll tell you RIGHT NOW that it's wrong. Rubick --> Steals napalm, stacks it on enemy --> steals ion shell --> deals 1 instance of sticky napalm PER TICK OF ION SHELL... So GTFO, this is the BEST WAY to check things, not on a spell by spell basis...

[04:28.75] Rubick hits Batrider with Ion Shell for 2 damage (1727->1725).[04:28.75] Rubick hits Batrider with Sticky Napalm for 187 damage (1725->1538).
[04:28.85] Rubick hits Batrider with Ion Shell for 2 damage (1537->1535).
[04:28.85] Rubick hits Batrider with Sticky Napalm for 187 damage (1535->1348).
[04:28.95] Rubick hits Batrider with Ion Shell for 2 damage (1349->1347).
[04:28.95] Rubick hits Batrider with Sticky Napalm for 187 damage (1346->1159).
[04:29.05] Rubick hits Batrider with Ion Shell for 2 damage (1159->1157).
[04:29.05] Rubick hits Batrider with Sticky Napalm for 187 damage (1156->969).
[04:29.15] Rubick hits Batrider with Ion Shell for 2 damage (969->967).
[04:29.15] Rubick hits Batrider with Sticky Napalm for 187 damage (967->780).
[04:29.25] Rubick hits Batrider with Ion Shell for 2 damage (780->778).
[04:29.25] Rubick hits Batrider with Sticky Napalm for 187 damage (778->591).
[04:29.35] Rubick hits Batrider with Ion Shell for 2 damage (591->589).
[04:29.35] Rubick hits Batrider with Sticky Napalm for 187 damage (588->401).
[04:29.45] Rubick hits Batrider with Ion Shell for 2 damage (401->399).
[04:29.45] Rubick hits Batrider with Sticky Napalm for 187 damage (398->211).
[04:29.55] Rubick hits Batrider with Ion Shell for 2 damage (211->209).
[04:29.55] Rubick hits Batrider with Sticky Napalm for 187 damage (209->22).
[04:29.65] Rubick hits Batrider with Ion Shell for 2 damage (22->20).
[04:29.65] Rubick hits Batrider with Sticky Napalm for 187 damage.
Seriously. This CANNOT be intended, think further before you say stuff like that.

Meh, we should test dispersion and blademail, which is a pretty likely scenario.

Blademail doesn't check for the damage amount and always triggers, and it therefore almost instantly kills poor DS with ion shell on. So yes. This cannot be intended.

6.78: Sticky Napalm's threshold is now damage after reductions must be greater than 38 or sourced from Firefly. Also, it should deal damage based on current level of Napalm regardless of anything else, like the level when it was applied (so the order of the example scenario is wrong).

Non-hero threshold bumped up to 50.

It also must not come from radiance.

(Technically, the main reason for this threshold was to prevent Radiance. Radiance isn't specifically checked for, and if its individual damage is increased above 38/50, say through Berserk-based abilities, Radiance will proc Sticky Napalm.)

No, it specifically checks for radiance.

In dota 2 it does, in WC3 DotA I believe that it used to, but definitely doesn't anymore. Feel free to test it yourself, as I just did.

Bumping this because with Random Ability Draft, the scenario where this bug becomes relevant is far more common (drafting Sticky Napalm + any skill that does below threshold damage).
