    Attack Damage is decided at the start of the frontswing - rather than at the attack point.

    Update:

    Things like miss chance are calculated at the attack point.

        I always figured this was one of those insane quirks of Dota1 that they ported to Dota2 like they do with most things, kinda like how windrun won't block projectiles already in flight when it is activated since they were already decided they were going to hit when the attack was started.

        Does it not work this way in Dota1 after all?

          i believe ranged and melee are different right? i dont think ranged attack is calculated when the projectile lands.(it should be the time it fires)

            No. Ranged projectiles damage are also decided when the attack frontswing starts. I checked range too.

              Just to clarify for ranged, should the damage be calculated after the frontswing or when the projectil lands?

                isn't this how its suppose to work?
                i remember necrolytes death pulse would change damage mid flight when you level it up but they fixed that.

                  Skills are different though, almost all skills in Dota are trigger based (and those that aren't could be made to be so anyhow) so if IF wanted he could quite easily make it so that damage is calculated on impact rather than on cast for a spell like that.
                  Auto attacks are hard coded by WC3 on the other hand.

                    At the end of the frontswing, when the projectile is released is when it should be calculated for ranged. This is the attack point, the damage should also be calculated at the attack point for melee heroes (end of backswing)

                        Receiving items while starting an attack, Venge, drow, Pit Lord and other damage auras, Morph morphing, Refraction?, leveling up while attacking, enfeeble, etc.
