Search by nickname fails to separate uppercase and lowercase results

  • Search by nickname fails to separate uppercase and lowercase results

Steam account name search will display "Example-1" if you search for "Example-1" which is expected.
Dota 2 replay search will display "example-1" if you search for "Example-1" and the other way around.

This creates confusion, I can search for my previous nickname and get results of another player using the same nick with upper case.

Suggestion: Separate the search results by case.

IMO that would make it too difficult (all too often people capitalise their names weirdly), perhaps add an "exact match" and "Match Case" checkbox (like in most search tools)...

But I think this belongs in misc, not bug brainstorming. PM me if you want me to move it.

Problem here is that anyone can end up in your search results if the search is not case sensitive.
This is a bug in the search engine, not a missing feature.
It fails to dispay relevant results, but instead displays something you didn't search for.
If you're going to move it, it should go into bug tracker, not off topic forum.

This is not a bug. It's a design choice. Either you allow a perfect search, or you make it easier to search complicated name.
EDIT: And most programming languages and/or databases use a case-sensitive search. I'm pretty sure they made it intentionally non case-sensitive.
If you think I've closed or deleted a post unjustified, feel free to PM me and I'll explain it to you/discuss it with you further.

If steam provides case sensitive nicknames, search engine must be able to search, otherwise is a failed search engine.
Give me one good reason why the search is defective by design.

Dota has nothing to do with steam, even if it uses steam names. Finding AdSfFafAS32A is way easier if the system is not case sensitive. It's not failed but a design decision, and due to the fact that most string comparisons in programming languages and databases are case sensitive, they probably did it on purpose.

I understand your point now, but I still disagree with the method.
Because of this decision, search for 10101 always returns single profile while AdSfFafAS32A returns multiple. (example names)

P.S. fix the typo in your signature, it's bothering me more than it should.

That would be your option then. An exact match button is quite common for many search functions.
Typo should be fixed, tell me if there's another one :P

IMO misc suggestions... This isn't really a "buggy" behaviour but a missing feature, which should probably come under Misc.
