  • pudge's meathook connecting area feels kinda wierd

in my last two games vs pudge i saw two hook attempts, which visually didn't connect but they got the heros hooked.
After looking at the replays at lowest replay speed (x0.25) this really looks and feels wierd. The hooks are clearly not hitting but still connecting on the target with a little "jump".
Maybe this is because the actual hitting area is bigger than the actual hook visualisation.

I would appreciate if someone can look at the replays and tell me whats going on. I suggest ot look at it with x0.25 play time.

    game 1
    Replay ID: 313603655
Replaytime: 00:05:22 - 00:05:32 bottom lane, radiant side, starting after spririt breaker is stunned by dk, hooking victim is SB

    game 2
    replay id: 313634404
Replaytime: 00:21:45 - 00:21:51 mid lane, tier 1 tower dire side, pudge hooks batrider and is clearly missing imo, this looks really wierd!!

    Thanks in advance.

I've seen some pretty weird hooks, dunno if they are intended. Basically, it seems like the hook misses and moves past the unit you are trying to hook, but at it's final destination, the aoe of the hook grabs the target that is now behind the hook, and it looks like they are getting hooked on the way back. Dunno if that's different from what you are describing. It might just be a visual thing, cause the hook actually 'latches' in dota 2, compared to dota 1.

I think that is caused by bad ping or something.

Edit: look how the hook chain moves between the two pictures, use the tower as a landmark

I've had something like this in the past and discussed it amongst friends. When throwing a hook in a diagonal fashion, as opposed to a straight up/down/left/right throw, the hit box gets a little weird and this is the result. I never looked into it much as I don't play Pudge often if ever. Would be nice to know if it's a known bug or not.

I used to dodge hooks like this. but it it seems harder now
i talked to some friends and they all admit that the hook mechanic got wierd since last patch, but maybe thats subjective perception

maybe it is better to match the visual hook size with its latching area

Hook hitbox is way too big since forever.

Looking at great hooks in DotA made go "OMFG SO SKILLED".
Hooks in Dota 2 make me go like "Surprise that fucking hook hit, so hard with a huge ass hitbox like that..."

If you took two seconds to do some research before raging, you might realize that Meat Hook hitbox is actually SMALLER than it is in DotA 1.

Batrider is flying. If you look at it from top view you will see that hook is directly underneath Batrider. About DS - animation seems buggy, but looks okay to me.
