  • Axe's counter helix and PRD

How PRD(pseudo-random distribution) affects counter helix proc

PRD means relatively even distribution of a certain skill's proccing. (less chance of lucky 3-5 successive Coup de Grace, or Counter Helix)

    Axe Counter Helix
    Cooldown 0.45/0.4/0.35/0.3

    1) If PRD counter starts before cooldown finishes, it will result in more frequent proccing of Helix.

    2) If PRD counter starts after cooldown finishes, overall probability will be the same. (still less lucky super Helixessss in short amount of time)

I felt as if it procced less than in 6.80.

I just thought of this actually, it's worth testing.

In WC3 it would round any chances to the closest 5%, so 3% would be the same as 5%.
I already tested it a few months ago, and back then if you gave a hero a 1% chance to crit he will -never- crit, so it seems that Dota 2 has the same mechanic with PRD.

I'm not really in a position to test what the interaction is right now, but it wouldn't entirely surprise me if they just activated PRD without changing this so someone should do so.

Well Axe suffered a ~4% winrate drop out of this change.

PRD with trigger cooldown always confuse me a lot... maybe if counter helix triggers when it is still in cooldown the probablity still reset? that could explain why the probability is much lower

How can I test that 1% is not working ?

Yes, the question arise after Helix is affected by PRD. Personally, it feels that Helix proccing is relatively lower in 6.81 compared to previous patch. So, I guess like what Eric said, too.

I saw someone had tested this. Out of 20 hits, there was an average of 3.0 spins before the patch and an average of 2.8 in 6.81. Which is like a 6.6% reduction from 6.80. When PRD kicks in would be an interesting thing to know.

saw another test on reddit, not sure if it's the exact reason, but it's safe to say PRD reduces the overall chance of counter helix. is it a bug? we dont know. it could be intended, though i personally dont think so.

one possible theory is that PRD on 17% with ~0.4 cd is actually using PRD constant for 15%, reducing overall probability, of course, making even distribution.

no one knows unless tested very large number, or Icefrogman tells us.

                  A) Get Axe (1 level into Helix), Alchemist with 500 AS and some other hero
                  B) Test one, attack Axe with the hero, record how many attacks it takes on average to proc Counter Helix
                  C) Test two, do the same using Alchemist. Chemical raged Alche attacks every 0.2 seconds. After he procs Helix, allow Alche to do 2 more attacks, then use another hero to proc Helix. If the PRD kicks in before the cooldown, then it should take 2 less attacks to proc Helix. If your results are the same, then it kicks in after the cooldown
