  • New spell damage type mechanics brainstorm

    http://www.dota2.com/rekindlingsoul/

    Black King Bar, Repel, Rage and all other previous forms of "Magic Immunity" now grant Spell Immunity status and a 100% Magic Resistance bonus.

    Reading this part made me feel a little uneasy because it seems like it may have some weird interaction with stuff that decreases magic resistance. Now normally, this would not be a problem because most - if not all - things that reduce magic resistance are going to be blocked out by the aforementioned new mechanic called Spell Immunity.

    But, some things like Elder Titan's Natural Order (which is an aura that pierces Magic Immunity) won't be. So then, how does this work with BKB's 100% Magic Resistance Bonus? For example, Beastmaster's Primal Roar (which pierces Magic Immunity and deals Magic Damage) while Natural Order is active.

    I have more:

    In the vast majority of cases, the interactions are still the same, however an example of a case that would be different is if an ability has both Spell Immunity exception and has Pure damage type. Previously the damage would not have any impact, however now it does.

    Does this mean that Pudge's hook now deals damage through BKB.

      I think this is Rupture damage.

          Its seems you have no idea of DotA's mechanics, eh? (You did not understand his post at all look it up if you are really interested in how Damage in Dota2 works). Anyways, all damages (both in Dota 1 and 2) have an Attack Type (AT) and a Damage Type (DT). What the casual non mechanic savvy DotA player calls "magic" damage is AT: Spell + DT: Magic. It is reduced by Spell Resistance and blocked by Magic Immunity. As stated in the change log, the only thing that happened in the patch is that they changed Magic Immunity to Spell Immunity (100% Spell Resistence).

          Natual Order Does not remove Spell Resistence. The least you can do before asking a question about the skill is to read its tool tip:

          Reduces all elements to their basic levels, removing base armor and magic damage resistance from nearby enemy units.
          All in all regardless of the situation, you will take 0 damage from "magic" damage if you have Spell Immunity (I hope you are far enough in your mathematics education to know that X*0=0). The change just makes it easier for the casual player to understand the game. If the skill can go through Spell Immunity, it will say so on the skill.

          @igo95862:
          DotA2's Damage calculation is more complex than DotA 1 (it has more variables as shown in Poison Sting, Rupture and etc). But yeah the results of this changes means more Rupture like damages.

          Finally decided to "transition" to dota 2. Still does not like moving.
