  • Creep aggro prioritization

Video 1 and Video 2 (both from the same game). The videos show what happens in normal speed and slow motion. Both videos show me a-clicking on the ground near one creep only to have my hero rush straight towards the ranged creep even though other creeps were closer. I can see that the ranged creep was the last to attack me and therefore my hero is aggroed on that creep.

Is prioritizing the ranged creep a bug, or is this how it's always worked in dota?

Units attacking you have a priority. It's rare for it to turn out like this, but there's nothing wrong with it.

    The priority is
    1. Enemies attacking you
    2. Enemies attacking your allies
    3. Enemies attacking nothing
    4. Enemies attacking your enemies or neutrals

The 4. is also the reason why you can draw creep aggro away from yourself by ordering an attack on your allies.

There are of course other factors as well like
    1. Enemies are within your aggro range (600 range for melee, 800 for ranged)
    2. Unit types (like heroes/creeps have highest priority, wards have lowest, etc)
    3. Probably some other things I can't remember right now

In your first vid, the ranged creep attacked you so it has priority over the creep attacking your ally. In the second, the ranged one attacked you again while the others were only walking, so they had even lower priority than the one creep in your 1st vid.

So, if you aim for a last hit on a specific unit, do not use ground attack order or auto-attacks.
    Please, just call me buny.
