  • WC3 engine limitations

I see many of posts regarding *works as intended it was wc3 engine limitation*, can you point me to skills that are not as Icefrog wanted them to be because of the engine limitation? I doubt there are skills in the game that could be shaped in one or other direction with that wc3 engine, what do you think?

the first thing which pops out of my head:

WC3 - frostbite doesn't work in batrider while under the effect of firefly.
    DOTA2- it does

we are just assuming they fixed it. No one knows for sure until a red poster confirms it.

Everything has to work as it did in dota1 until spoken otherwise.

there is trouble in war3 with transformation skills (ie stun dodging/loss of hero control) and also specifically interaction with manta style. dragon knight with EDF and manta style could split into three dragons when the actions were queued up in a certain order, but in dota2 this is not necessary

Wat? Stun dodging not necessary? NOT NECESSARY?

            DotA1 - Phaseboot's active prevent Crit/Bash for its duration.
DotA2 - Crit away, my friends.

            And a less obvious example:
DotA1 - Spectre has to click closely on her dagger path to run on it.
DotA2 - You can click the other side of the cliff and she'll run there.
Every time someone make a false report.
Making people's losses feel worse with just my name (don't ask me how it work, I certainly don't)

Currently observed Orb(Unique Attack Modifiers), Critical, and Bash interactions for DotA2

            To:
People who cry MM isn't fair: Maybe you're not as great as you make yourself to be.
People who wants surrender: It exists, but I'm not teaching you how to do it.

I do mean skill limitations not item. And spectre can run through terrain in d1 and in d2 its just a bit harder.

As an addition to this particular example, while pathing while phased is much easier in dota 2, spectre is now only phased when it is on the dagger path. Spectre no longer retains phase for a short period when you move off the path, although it still retains the movement bonus.

Wait wait wait. Crit is not disabled by Phase Boots in DotA2? I was sure somebody claimed it was still disabled due to balance reasons. Can somebody clarify?

Crit is not disabled. Im not sure where you heard that from. When Icefrog found it out about it in the original Dota, he made it clear in the old blog post on it that he didnt want it to be like that, but didnt have much choice if he wanted to retain the functionality of the boots.

Phase was problematic because of how collision works. Basically making an ability based on wind walk is the ONLY way to remove unit-collision without removing terrain collision as well, without having to use a lot of complex workarounds which frankly would not have been worth it for a single item. So phase boots were stuck with the limitations of windwalk.
