  • Pugna and Orbs

    I've read the following topic

    http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?...l=1#post165349

I would like to refute the answer given by the core tester.

Pugna was given a hidden secondary attack which was magical so that it is able to hit banished units when it carries an orb.

Yeah it was definitely intended in DotA. Not sure why everyone says otherwise. I'd have no problem with all the threads about this ending up closed if IceFrog would say this unique behavior of Pugna's that was easily disabled in DotA is removed intentionally in Dota2.

Moved to Brainstorming. All discussion on mechanic should go here from now on.

I agree that we should consider this not working as intended unless we have official word. Pugna's second attack was specifically singled out in order to get this interaction, while it was disabled for other heroes. 'Fixing' it in Dota 1 is as easy as changing one line in the script.

But isn't the reason Pugna have it in the first place was that his base unit (Skeleton Mage) had the 2 attack options? I think he's one of the pre-existing heroes when Ice took over and since the interaction was neither game breaking nor taking up any extra map space (since it's part of the core game), it never got touched upon.

I'm all for implementing it again since I actually went Skadi/Mjolnir in DotA1 before, but I think in DotA2 it'll either be not working at all, or working with all orbs for the sake if consistency across the board rather than the DotA1's specific orbs (Mjol/Deso),more so considering that Deso is probably one of the worst option to get on Pugna.

Right now it might be like Bloodseeker's Thirst before 6.73, where it was 'nerfed' because the Devs do not want to port over the old 'bug' of it. Though I can't put as much hope behind this as the case of Thirst (where the Dev declare it'll either be full reveal or not working at all)
Every time someone make a false report.
Making people's losses feel worse with just my name (don't ask me how it work, I certainly don't)

Currently observed Orb(Unique Attack Modifiers), Critical, and Bash interactions for DotA2

People who cry MM isn't fair: Maybe you're not as great as you make yourself to be.
People who wants surrender: It exists, but I'm not teaching you how to do it.

I've just found out that the devs do know about this interaction, and its up to them to implement it if they want to. I won't lock this right away, but knowing that, I think this will be left as it is in D2.

Skeletal Mage is not a hero. You can't base a hero off a non-hero unit. Pugna and all other heroes in DotA who use a non-hero model are based off a normal hero, and then have their model and icon changed. Also, every unit in WC3 has 2 attack fields. Here's what the combat field of the object editor looks like for those that've never opened the WC3 editor before:

Also, even if Pugna were somehow based off of the Skeletal Mage unit - they have no secondary attack at all by default (Weapon Type: None), and their basic attack does piercing damage.

isnt it kind of pointless? maybe 1 in 20 games will a punga get a desolator or skadi (only orb effects im aware of that work) it was a nice feature but it isnt exactly a huge deal.

no, it's not pointless to want dota 2 to function like DotA mechanically. actually i'm pretty sure that's the purpose (or at least a large part of it) of the beta and the bug forum.

but DLrevan says that developers know about the inconsistency but are neglecting to implement it, so i guess that's as good as an official word.
