  • Rubick - Stolen spells interaction passives

    Created because of http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=42597

So basically I went out and checked just how Spellsteal interacts with stolen spells that combine with passives in one way or another, so here's the list:

Rubick benefits from Tiny's the level of Grow for Toss damage
Rubick benefits from Death Prophet's the level of Witchcraft on all her abilities
Rubick benefits from Spirit Breaker's level of Bash on all his abilities
Rubick uses the amount of souls Shadow Fiend had at the moment of spell stealing when Rubick casts the stolen Requiem of Souls
Rubick benefits from Ogre Magi's enhancing effects like cooldown reductions and mana cost increase, but he does NOT benefit from the Ignite AoE or multicast chance.
Rubick does NOT benefit from Lone Druids level of Synergy in any way
Rubick does NOT benefit from Phantom Lancer's Phantom Edge in any way (Well, since you're creating Rubick illusions and not Phantom Lancer illusions I suppose this one falls outside of this discussion, but I felt I should include it regardless)
Rubick does NOT benefit from Lina's Fiery Soul in any way
Rubick does NOT benefit from Stormspirits' Overload in any way
Rubick does NOT benefit from Zeus' Static Field in any way

So basically simply put, what should and shouldn't he benefit from?
My own image would be that he benefits from passives that give enhancements, while he shouldn't benefit from passives that create their own effect.

This would mean that he should benefit from Synergy and the rest stays as is.
The only real doubt for me is that Bash technically falls under passives that trigger their own effect, so he'd be the only exception among those passives (basically simply because his abilities are really quite crappy without the bash on it). And well, I hate exceptions.
That said, I don't think it'd be overpowered if he were to benefit from the triggered passives, as since they would only trigger from the Stolen spell its not like he can keep up a Fiery Soul 3 stack like a Lina can due to cooldowns, or quickly chain 4 spells like Zeus and deal a ton of damage with Static Field. In a sense I'd like this more as it means the game would be completely consistent.

I'd say things that directly affect the spell should be copied, including Synergy and Multicast, but abilities that have a separate effect (Hunter in the Night, Fiery Soul, Static Field etc) shouldn't be.

Hunter in the Night is its own single effect, it doesn't interact with any of NS abilities. But since Fiery Soul activates from spells cast it has -some- interaction with them.
But yes, that's the exact same way I thought of it.

IIRC, it was changed either in a recent patch or while it was on the test server. Rubick isn't actually supposed to benefit from greater bash if you use Dota 1 as the rule, but adding it makes it more consistent with spells like Requiem.

I think the key difference is that Charge and Nether Strike are specifically coded to trigger a bash (and say so in their descriptions), while things like aftershock and overcharge set themselves off when you cast any spell. They are not part of the spell being cast, they just monitor your spell casting and trigger themselves. Nowhere in the description of Static Revenant does it say that you get an Overcharge buff, for instance.

It didn't on the initial test build, but it was changed later.
I forgot about ES' passive actually yes, but it falls under the same category as Overload and such.

That is true, so I suppose it's fine to leave Charge and Nether Strike as an exception.

Regardless, Synergy should be changed to work on stolen spells. Multicast I personally feel the AoE on Ignite should work, but regarding the multicasting itself I'm not too sure.
