Roshan's targeting AI

  • Roshan's targeting AI

I'm a bit confused about how exactly Roshan's aggro AI has changed in Dota 2.

In dota 1, my understanding was that his aggro priorities were:
    1. Red HP heroes
    2. Current target if still in range
    3. Closest hero

In dota 2, Roshan seems to change targets in a not-always-logical way. It seems to me that he simply attacks the hero who is closest to him, regardless of anything else. Is this accurate?
Are red HP heroes still a priority for him?
Under what conditions will Roshan change targets (assuming his current target does not move away, that is)? Does it have to do with proximity, who's attacking him, .... ?

I've searched for answers to this but haven't found anything clearly defined and updated for Dota 2.

    Thanks!

Roshan does aggro differently in dota2. Just try solo rosh at level 7 with veno in dota and dota2. It's near impossible in the latter but quite easy in the former

This is like a completely different issue from what the OP is talking about. Venomancers wards are just never targeted by creeps. I think there's a thread or two about it.

So does this mean that a red-hp hero can continue attacking roshan as long as someone else is tanking him?

Pretty sure roshan always attacks the closest target now.

Aggro AI includes targeting of plague wards so I think it is relevant

I was just stating that plague wards have their own set of problems that have nothing to do with Roshan. It would be better off being in a different bug report instead of latching it on the middle of this one and it is in other ones.

I did a little testing and found that Roshan will attack low health targets as he should when there are only two heros attacking him, but seems to change his targeting when 3 or more attack. When there are a lot of heroes he will simply attack his current target and use his slam but not switch targets. Probably should test some more.

Yes. This is how Ursa/SK level 1 rosh works, kind of.
