  • Why can't Soul Rip kill enemy heroes?

Soul Rip has picked up a nerf in Dota 2 in the form of being unable to kill enemy heroes, but instead leave them at 1 hp.

Why? Is this an experiment, or is this how Undying is intended to be?

I strongly dislike this change, and for that matter, disagree with Venomancer's ult behaving in a similar fashion. What's the point in this balance adjustment? Soul Rip is expensive and conditional on units being nearby--it might hit hard, but it might also do little to no damage. That's the trade off.

Can anyone comment on this and what we can expect from Soul Rip?

    Are you sure?
    • Every counted unit, friend or enemy, is damaged by 25; it can't be used to kill, it will leave the unit with 1 hp instead.
Old guides on playdota also mention it.
    All hail St. Regina!

The 25 hp removed is not supposed to be fatally damaging (will leave a 25 hp unit at 1 hp), however, the targeted damage on the single unit is supposed to be fatal. If that is not the case, then it is indeed a glitch- casting a 500 damage soul rip on a 100 hp hero should kill him, not leave him at 1 hp. However I haven't tested and confirmed.

Are you referring to the primary damage, or the damage done to units counted by it?

I'm referring to the primary damage (to the target you're selecting)--not the "sources" from which souls are pulled.

I will test this again and update this thread will results.

You can kill a unit with soul rips primary damage.

Have never experienced enemies surviving soul rip's primary damage (beneath threshhold) in Dota2, though it is, I suppose, possible that my killing blows with it have instead been from a well timed zombie hit.

Also, Veno's ult has always been non-fatal.

                True!

I've played 5 UD games and I can confirm that the spell is fatal. I did several kills with it!

That tooltip is a little misleading, the part "it can't be used to kill" refer to the 25 HP removal used to fuel the main target damage.

What bugs me is that undying must have vision of the units. I am not sure if this is correct.

Veno ult killing units would be near OP ... Gale + auto attack + ult = You're fucked, bro.

If you gale as or slightly after you ult someone, the last tick of gale will finish them off anyway. All but scepter ulty lasts as long as gale.

If OP has evidence that the primary damage is not fatal, then PM me about this.
