  • [Discussion] Invoker Illusion & Orbs

Hello, i recently noticed that you can see by 100% which is the real invoker if he takes the illusion rune. The illusions dont have those flying balls above their head, while the real one always does. in my opinion that should be fixed since illusions are used to hide oneself or to bait for spells to put them on cooldown or waste mana of enemies in certain situations.

    regards asyncD

afaik this is the same as in wc3 dota.

Not gamebreaking. Makes Manta/Cold snap combo very slightly less viable (no one even gets manta on him anyway, but just imagining it now, it wouldn't be terrible) and you can't mind-game with illusions, but other than that it's not really an issue, especially because invoker will change his orbs/cast a spell/cast invoke and has very flashy animations.

For consistency, it would be better if they mirrored which orbs he had equipped when he picked it up, but again, it's not that big of a deal.

Also, do/should the illusions benefit from the orbs equipped when picked up? I'd also vote yes for consistency.

From a nerdy standpoint, they shouldn't be displayed over illusions. The orbs are a "spell", they aren't part of the hero, which the illusion rune duplicates. And illusions can't use skills (aside from the passive bonuses), so they shouldn't be able to use orbs.

From a normal/balance standpoint, being able to use illusions to escape is a buff Invoker doesn't really need. I think it would be best to leave it as it is in WC3.

          That is true.
but i think, it would be a nice addition to the invoker, if the illusions mirrored his orbs.
it would go along with him being a master of magic (including illusions).
this change needs to wait til invoker is a bit weaker though.

i didnt "report" it coz it is gamebreaking. but imo its a little issue that should be worked on.. just to make the game better.. there have been fixed less important issues aswell.

since it works same way as in wc3 dota i don't think it can be considered as a bug

looks like a valid argument to me

saying it was in wc3 is not a valid argument in my opinion.. some stuff was limited by engine.. i dont know how it was in this case. but rubick could not copy all effects in dota 1 since it was limited by engine.. now rubick can copy ALL active effects. including transformation spells like undying or lycan

i am not saying that wc3 way is the right way, but for now if something works same way, we don't consider it a bug. They could make a lot of fixes after all heroes will be here.

Trying to use invoker illusions to bait out your enemies into wasting their spells is pretty much a no go, it would take someone who's completely new to the game or unaware to get them to make this mistake.

Also, I doubt anyone is asking for the orbs to have any actual effect on invoker beyond visual parity with the real invoker at the time the illusion was created.

To me it's a no-brainer that the orbs should display on illusions.

Since the other thread was closed unhelpfully, bumping this. There is no reason for one hero's illusions to be totally worthless.

Well, even if it is the same as W3 DotA right now... even if we can't call this a bug, I suppose this thing might be like this on DotA because of the engine limitations (fancy words, everyone uses, now I do, too).
If it was indeed due to engine limitations, then I would like to suggest considering this as a Gameplay Bug, and needs a fix as an Intended Fix.
