I never tried this, but I have played this game we call DotA for 5 years and I have never guessed which unit the Tiny will toss for all those years.

Now that I have Dota 2, and endless testing possibilities under my hands, I will go and test this. If my statement above was wrong, I will swallow my pride and edit with apologies.

Random selection, as well as specific selection by unit type or distance are all possible. So its by design.

Oh in Dota 1 in-game it actually says "a nearby unit" playdota's just wrong.

Alright. In WC3 Dota it doesn't appear to be random to me, it appears to be the unit which needs to get tossed the least distance to reach the target (i.e. closest TO YOUR TARGET) within a 275 AOE. Someone else might need to confirm though, either way it's a tooltip issue in one of the two games, and may be interacting differently.

E: Nvm, it must've just happened a few times in a row :/ This is wrong!!

started a topic Tiny's toss working differently in Dota 2?

Tiny's toss working differently in Dota 2?

The description for both games is as follows:
    Dota 1:
Tiny grabs the nearest unit, friend or foe, and launches it at a location. Upon landing, the unit deals damage in an area. It also receives an extra 20% of the area damage itself, or more as your size increases.
    Dota 2:
Grabs a random unit in a 275 radius around Tiny, friend or enemy, and launches it at the target unit to deal damage where they land. If the tossed unit is an enemy, it will take an extra 20% damage. Toss does more damage as Tiny's size increases.

It is obvious in Dota 2 that it does choose a random hero within that 275 radius. I do not remember if this is how it worked in the original Dota, however, so if it does than this topic could be closed, although it does bring up the question of WHY it doesn't grab the nearest unit. Personally I believe this small change matters, especially as I would like to choose who I toss by adjusting my position, instead of accidently tossing another hero instead of a creep.
Working...
