Does anyone feel that the sound effect right after you fire the second projectile should only be heard by allies? I've dodged many AA ultimates just because the sound effect gave me a signal that it was coming and have many of my own ultimates miss because of it.

I think so as well, or at the very least it shouldn't play in the fog.
I suppose this is just an underlying issue of many, many spells that have their sound effects play in Fog though, rather than something exclusive to Ice Blast.

I think its intended, and i think it should stay as it is.
You see in dota 2 universe (i mean engine), spells make sounds (as normal stuffs in a normal world: you can hear a jet flying above your head)... so if a big ice ball is going in your direction you can hear it even through fog.

When ursa casts overpower or enrage he screams like a demonic beast in hell (lol)... if hes jungling the sound will spread through the woods, and if you are near it you can hear the sound... even if its in fog.
This issues give the game a portion of reality, it should stay this way.

NOW, i think this sounds should apply only if you hero is near (i think nowdays it works if you vision is near, and not your hero)

imho, sound should be played only if you have vision of the area.

however, this maybe the con of the ulti, the fact that it make noise.

just like the pudges ulti, wich can be heard by everybody, its like a down side.

At the end of the day it's an inconsistency with DotA 1 and something impacts the balance of a number of heroes.
If they want to diverge from DotA 1 by doing this, I'm fine with it, but then they should also accept that they've diverged and start making balance changes for Dota 2 rather than just porting WC3.

Are you new to game forums? Because you're trying to apply logic to a game. Why not add gas stations to the game as well so tinker actually makes sense. Mana on a machine wut?

I can dodge KotL's illuminate too because I hear a jet engine taking off... it's just the way it is. You're supposed to be able to hear it and react. A good player will try to get out of the way, or some will say, "screw it, I'm not breaking my farm for a stupid ice ball", but regardless, there's a sound and also a blue orb that shows that your area has been targeted, so watch out, or she'll getcha!

I think he expressed better what i think about this new sound thing.

"Hear and React" describes it simple and perfectly.

Are you new to action games? So tell me, for example a good FPS game without a good 3D sound implementation.

You cant see the sniper hidden in a window of a tower, but you can hear his shots.
You cant see the guy nextroom but you can hear his steps.
You cant see the guy at the other side of the building in the end of a street but you can hear the explosion of one granade that he threw away.

This are just simple examples of any good FPS game, by the way DOTA is an action game.

This "new sound system" in dota causes the game to be more intriguing.

while i really think opponents should not be aware of whats happening in the fog.

the fact you can hear some things is totally cool and makes the game even more awesome.

^New player? Opposing team members are unable to see the first projectile as well as the explosion aoe of Ice Blast. The initial projectile can only be seen with truesight.

You can't see the initial projectile with truesight in Dota 2. Same with Sunstrike. IceFrog never wanted them to be visible in any way but there's no way to do so in WC3, hence Dota 2 fixed that.

Wow, thanks for the trivia knowledge, in that case i believe that the sound should be removed from the launch as well, it makes it too easy to be dodged currently.

Don't ever base any argument in dota on logic or real life. Instead, focus on balance / enjoyment factor.

Why don't we add the sound of footsteps for invis heroes, or see the water distort as they walk through it. Why don't heroes with armour on them don't have higher armour values? Or the ones with swords. Or why can heroes with no legs use boots?

                          Not in my dota, please.

Its based in action games, not in real-life.

Really you think someone could suggest this? invisible heroes are stealthy. Think a shift-walk in CS, for example of stealthness).
AND if you're a gondar and explodes your smokes to renew your invisible people will "see" you.

STILL, YES, if the hero is using a "unnatural effort" to run/move aorund he'll be listened (as SB's charge, Magnus Skewer and blinks in general make sounds).

Im pretty sure that the basic model: lore issues / model's armor / model's robustness on most of heroes were taken in consideration when the frog thought about the starting armor and skills.

well,u have to know where its gonna hit in order to dodge it first.

And all of us seen the situations with blast/sstrike where player moves out of position of ult, then comes back into right spot to be hitted.

So u cant say that players will be able to dodge everything just because there hear it.

Pudge's ult sound is also global.None is complaining about that.Kaldr ult is just as fine.
