  • Doom: Scorched Earth in dota2 vs dota1

    I thought this seemed odd
The change comes from the parity update that added:
    - Scorched Earth now also affects other units you control

Now in dota1, when i tested this (sorry forget to take screenshots) necro warriors gained the speed/hp regen, but not the damage effect of scorched earth.

In dota2 this is not the case:
If near doom they extend the range of the fire by having the fire aura themselves. Each one hits separately for 30*X, with X being the amount of creeps you have. Hotd, + eaten troll warlord doom has a potential max of 4 skeletons, 2 trolls and 2 necro units. That is a total of 270 DPS from scorched earth burn damage. Now obvious silliness aside of having that many skeletons/creeps, it isn't consistent with dota1.

Here is a screenshot of the combat log, showing each of the necro warriors doing burn damage too.

Unless there is some limitation on WC3 that can't give the aoe dps to the necro units, I can't see why it wouldn't do it in dota1 but would in dota2.

Edit: Also illusions of doom gain the damage too. I didn't test this in dota1, but I think it would probably work similar to creeps.

Edit2: okay I decided to not be lazy and redo my dota1 test

The image shows the necro unit within dooms aura, but does not gain its own fire aura. This isn't how it works in dota2, in which the necro unit within dooms "flames" gains his own flame aura of the same size, as mentioned above.
