Opening the Console while in the menu.

  • Opening the Console while in the menu.

The menu seems to disable hotkeys, so there's no way to open the console unless it's ingame (playing a game, or watching a live game/replay).

But that doesn't happen always. A friend of mine can open the console whenever. And it's a feature I really want.

I've tried changing some parameters, and testing with -console, -enableconsole.

I also tried binding it to other keys, and looked at the output of "find disable", "find menu" and "find console", but didn't catch anything interesting.

So... anyone has any clue of what might enable opening the console from the menu?

    Try con_enable 1 in autoexec.cfg

Forgot to say that, I removed/added con_enable on the autoexec, on top of the bind/unbind of the console.

The thing is, without con_enable you can't open the console at any time, it's not menu-relevant.

By the way, can you open the console while in the menu? Can you execute a host_writeconfig and upload your config.cfg if that's the case? (so I can compare them).

Assign console to the "Insert" key

Edit no need for funny seemingly expert stuff, just go to options > metagame and set insert as your console key, also, I'm not sure what you had done for enabling console but, -console -hideconsole in the launch options is just enough
if this was not what I thought was going on in this thread, then I'm sorry, I couldn't understand

Strange, I set it to insert as well and it works fine on the menu. Is there something special about Insert?

con_enable 1 in autoexec is the cleaner way to enable console without it popping up at the start, plus it lets you keep everything in your autoexec so you don't have to mess with launch options.

That didn't work for me, but it was illuminating enough: What happens is that the menu disables many keys. In your case, Insert isn't disabled. In my friend's case, F10 isn't (F11 is, though). In my case, I haven't found any Function key (A key without a symbol associated) that works, but at least I can assign KP_MINUS. It has the disadvantage of writing "-" on the console when closing it with that key (which is kept when I reopen the console), but at least I know understand the problem.

-hideconsole is there to disallow console from popping-up with the startup

My console was initially bound to the key that did not work out for me... I then looked for a key that I wouldn't be using at all, and handy. Insert was perfect, so I took that one
Sorry if it didn't help you out

He was telling you that you can remove both -console and -hideconsole and replace it by "con_enable 1" on the autoexec file.

And you did help me, now I understand the problem and half-solved it. I still would like to understand what's the reason, but it's not as crucial.
