  • Automatic abandonment after successfully reconnecting to a game

Summary: For the past few months, whenever I get disconnected from a game (for whatever reason) I do my best to reconnect and when I finally get reconnected way BEFORE the 5 minute mark, I get automatic abandonment. Time and time again this has been the result. Because of this, I was placed in low priority today.

    Retro Steps:
    1. Dota 2 crashes
    2. Launching the game again
    3. Reconnecting to the game
    4. Successfully reconnected to the match/co-op bot before the 5 minute mark
    5. Received a notice that I have abandoned the game despite reconnecting and still playing.

    Result:
Basically, once the minute I get reconnected to my game, it says that I have abandoned the game and that no stats will be recorded. It also says that the game is safe to leave just like how it usually does whenever it is a legitimate game abandonment.

    Expected Result:
Successfully reconnecting into the game without abandonment status. Also, if it is possible can I get out of the low-priority pool? Abandonment was forced upon me and it was not a choice nor was it fair.

    No, you can't get out.
You propably didn't get XP for 5 minutes, causing you to abandon.

How can I get XP if I got disconnected from my game due to the game crashing? that makes no sense. Besides, as I mentioned, I was able to reconnect within the 5 minute mark however it still forced me to "abandon" even if I didn't

Yes, you can't get XP, but that doesn't matter. The punishment isn't ment for being gone for exactly 5 minutes, at the second, but for not participating 5 minutes. If you got back before abandoning, the XP timer triggered, simple.

This is not a bug, is just working as badly-intended. AFK detection and Disconnect Timer shouldn't be shared IMO.

But I wasn't AFK during the game and I reconnected before the 5 min period elapsed yet it still came out as an abandonment. HOW IS THIS FAIR?

Yes, I know. But I was not AFK at any point of the game. What is this XP timer you speak of?

5 minutes without XP = abandon, just like 5 minutes disconnected = abandon.

Are you saying that if i got disconnected and team wouldn't pause for some reason, moving me to get exp wouldn't cause abandoning?

No. If you're disconnected for 5 minutes you abandon. I don't know if the XP counter resets if you disconnect, or exactly how that works however.

Doesn't matter if it is simple or not, it is just wrong.

The "xp timer trigger" shouldn't count when the user is disconnected, simple.

By adding this we should expect to see some players abuse this and stay out of play for almost 10 mins WO any punishment (They can add 1 more minure to the 5 min exp time to avoid this and i think 1 more minute is fine in this cases)
