Pudge hook

  • Pudge hook

Whenever I play Pudge and I get a hook, you can't do anything with Pudge while the hooked target is "flying" towards you. All it does is to que your moves/abilitys.

Say I hook someone, and I try to run backwards while the target is still going towards me. But since Pudge freezes durring this, his backwards step is que'd, often resulting in that after the target lands with Pudge, you walk away from them.

Is everything as it should be?

No, I remember in Dota1 you could queue a force stick and hook and have the hook itself extend the force stick range.

Similarly, you could also make the hook "curve" as well.

I'm pretty sure the current design of Meat Hook is intended, although it is slightly different.

You're also able to cancel the cast and fake it, which you can't in Dota1.

You can do this still. Items still work while casting any ability. I think OP specifically is referring to movement, which is not as it as in DotA where you could move as the hook was returning.

SlyGoat got it. But I'm going to guess that everything is working as intended?

Not working as intended in DotA mechanics, but perhaps intended for DotA2. IceFrog/Valve have seemed a little ambiguous lately about exactly what is supposed to be consistent. Originally it was anything and everything but now it seems a lot of inconsistencies are allowed to stay in, or perhaps just low priority.

SLYGOAAAAT! You could only move during the very last part of it returning i think.

"Hook" was a vJass script before and it creating many units in path to do the "hook" and it was something not bound to your hero. Now it's something that is hardcoded to the game so it works like a short channeling ability until the hook comes back to pudge. I think now it's better and much more logical.

You could move during about the last half of its return animation. It feels significantly less responsive in dota2. It could be another server delay issue or something.

It wasn't bound to your hero, but it did pause your hero during the animation so that you would have a delay before your next action. The delay just feels longer in dota2.

Like, should not you be able to activate rot or walk back a few steps while your hooks is going back to you?

I think op played HoN, there devourer (pudge) will stand still while casting the hook, but at the moment it's 'flying' you can move with him again, thus giving that last little correction to your hook or hooking the enemie back those extra couple of meters. Personally I really like it because it adds some extra depth to his hooking and it really feels boss. However it will probably not be implemented in Dota 2 as this is Pudge we're talking about.

I find the feel of hook different compared to DotA. I don't think anyone brought up that bastardization of Pudge from HoN. If Pudge's ultimate did half of what Devourer's does Pudge would be the best hero in DotA.

I'll read my post again to see if I adressed this to you. Ow wait.. I adressed it to OP and Hey.. Look one post up, it was the right answer. Maybe next time try to focus on the thread instead of making this a 'HoN/LoL is bad, Dota is the best' fanboy thread again.

No you should not be able to move while hooking. In dota 1 the target is forced to the position you are in while hooking which would result in if you back away, the target would still stop where you started the hook. To be able to move while hooking and making the target follow you would be to easy to abuse with i.e turning around and make both yourself and teammate(s) force staff you or just by getting tp'd by ezalor. The only thing i dislike at this point is that force staff-hooks is not working the same way as in dota 1.
