verify game files, set graphics options to default. If both failed, try "-nod3d9ex" as launch option.

I had the same issue and it turns out my graphic settings are all reset to Off and Low after the update last night.
Tried to turn them back on, but when I created a game, they went back to Off and Low.
After some intense clicking and restarting DOTA 2 action I somehow managed to turn some of my graphic settings to ON.
Also I used some commands like "mat_monitorgamma 2.2" and "mat_vsync 0" to resolve some issues with the brightness too low and vsync not turning off.

i just had a guy ingame who suffered the same problem. For some reason, his render detail (or whatever this option is called) was set to lowest. Just turn it to 3/4 or higher and you should be fine again.

            epic sig, keranov.
