  • Tournament games should pause automatically once a player drops

Today was a game between Liquid and VP and at one point the server crashed. Due to that the heroes stopped attacking and went back to base. Here is a video showing how f.e. Luna did survive.

    So my suggestion is:
Games should pause automatically when a player drops. There are rare cases like in this game where no one can pause instantly. If all players would have actually dropped, the game would have ended by itself. Please consider that option of auto pausing once a disconnect occurs! But not when someone leaves intentionally.

IMO this is a no go, tournament admins should be able to resolve this situations, a pause can cause a lot of troubles in several situations and I think that it does not outweight the pros of this possibility.

Out of my experience watching Dota 2 games people do pause as fast as possible once a player drops. In 99% of all cases this actually happens. 1% is where they dont notice that one player is out. So where is the problem to implement this? It would help the game and once a server error happens like in that game, the fast pause might actually recuse the game. Remember that a game closes automatically when all players drop.

No, you are wrong, if a teamfight of 3v3 or so is happening in the mid lane for example, and the Lifestealer that was farming the neutrals at that moment disconnects from the game, the game won't get paused 50% of the time even if every player notices that he has been disconnected. And if someone pauses, that someone was most likely not in the combat, and the game will get unpaused as soon as possible... to be re-paused after the heat drops

Auto-pause is no good, never is. This is just my opinion

This is totally the wrong section for this. This is a fact

That's was not a simple disconnect.

I suggest adding that video and link to the game there.

Discussion belongs in Misc. Personally I think it's not needed and it could bring worst problems. Pauses in the middle of a teamfight are normally not allowed in tournaments (or frowned upon), and a feature like that could be easily abusable.

When a player drops in a tournament game and both teams do actually fight, the pause still comes through! THEY EVEN PAUSE DURING FIGHTS! BECAUSE the disconnected player MIGHT teleport to the fight OR is INVOLVED in that fight. The pause comes through no matter what, there is no such case where the enemy team would unpause or where both teams wont pause. I wasn't joking or assuming when I said that 99% of the time the game gets paused, that happens basically all the time and why shouldn't you make this a feature? Was the same with the Courier-Script which got eventually implemented because everyone was using it.

So I would like this to be implemented in competitive matches streamed via Dota TV because it improves the competitive scene and it is ANOTHER security before using savefiles to reload a game. And savefiles used to be bugged a lot.... so they wouldnt work.

Look, if they want to pause, they can do it themselves... There is no need to force such a thing. Disconnections don't happen with an instant anyway. When you see the "xxx has disconnected" label, the player actually has actually got disconnected at least 2~3 seconds ago, which can increase up to 30 seconds.

As said before, you may make this suggestion at Misc, but I heartily hope that it won't ever happen.
You may use the argument that

"in W3, as soon as any player starts to having a set percent of packet loss, a disconnection menu came up that auto-paused the game instantly until either the player got disconnected or got his/her connection back to normal"

Here, I even have given you a good argument to support your suggestion. But this really isn't the correct section, just do it in Misc

The reason they sometimes don't pause immediately is because they are in the heat of the battle, not because they didn't want to. That farming Naix could've tped. He also could've died because he was low and was planning to Infest and then BAM, disconnect.

I agree with OP. Auto pause should be implemented at least for tournament games, at least when problems like these still persist. These can decide the outcome of a game. If something like this decides the finals of TI3, the bitching will be endless, but it will be too late. I understand why pauses in the middle of a fight are frowned upon, but it's better than these full DC's in crucial moments of a game.
