  • Computer blacks after about 5-10 minutes

    Hi guys,

I recently had some problems with my computer overheating lots to the point where it would get so warm that everything would just freeze and I would have to shut it down. However the computer would not overheat to the point where I could not play until about my 3rd game in a row or so..
Then the other day I reinstalled everything on the computer -> windows, drivers etc.. So now all of a sudden my DotA 2 is running more smooth than ever before! Getting me very excited about the whole new gaming experience it is, but then out of no where the computer will now fuck up after about 5-10 minutes. It has happened 5 times now and I have no idea how I am suppose to adress this problem.
The best way for me to describe it is that the game will be running smooth and show no sign that the computer is struggling running the game or anything and then suddenly it will give me about 5 seconds of major glitching where I cannot move or do anything with only slight movement in the game where the sound fucks up as well and then from that point it will turn into a black screen (Not blue!) and it will stay there without shutting down until I do so.

These are my computer specs that I know of:
    Processor - Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPU - M 370 @ 2.40GHz 2.39GHz
    RAM - 4gb
    Running windows 7

I dont know too much about specs, so I just copy pasted whatever info I could find.. Hope some of you guys are familiar with my problem and will be able to aid me with it.

perhaps it's an overheat problem. Have you tried playing with minimal settings in-game and also trying the following settings for your nvidia card?

P.S. You could also try UNDERCLOCKING (not Overclocking) your graphics card (google for it) if you can't fix your problem. Making sure your laptop is clean from dust and the intakes have space so that the components are well ventilated would be great, too.

    Good Luck!

sounds like your laptop is still overheating to me; you may want to look into a laptop cooling pad.

        +1 for overheating
try to monitor your graphics card temperature using GPU-Z utility (with log to file enabled), maybe you will see high temperatures there.

had same blacks on my old Radeon X800XL long ago when there were much dust in the heater.
