Dota 2 freezes my laptop mid game

This doesn't happen in every single game, probably every other game. Around 30-35 minutes into a game, my computer would freeze with no looping sounds or artifacts. I can't move my mouse or alt tab to desktop. If I wait for 5-6 minutes, my computer turns off completely. If I manually turn off my computer(holding down the power button) right when it freezes and turn it on again, I get a message saying "Operating System not found". However, if I wait 4-5 minutes after it turns of/ I turn it off, it boots up fine.
I haven't had any other games crashed besides Dota 2.

Also, I've tried uninstalling & and reinstalling the game, updating my video drivers, updating windows, turning down video settings, verify integrity. Nothing seems to work so far.

Sounds like a hard disk issue, going by the operating system not found issue. Run some diagnostics on your boot disk.

This happened to me too last time when I was playing DOTA 2 with my Dell XPS 15 (L502X).
Happens randomly, sometimes in every game and sometimes once every 5-6 games.

Game freezes, sound stuttering. Alt+Tab is useless, Ctrl+Alt+Del > Task manager > End Process Tree on Dota.exe but the process remains there, it does not end.
I had to manually turn off my laptop by holding down the power button.

I assume your laptop comes with something called the Optimus technology?

So I scanned my laptop using Windows 7's hdd error-checking. Turns out there were a few problems with it, but it was fixed. After that the game did not crash for 3-4 days, but then it started crashing again.
Whenever the laptop crashes, it does not allow me to alt tab, ctr + alt + del, or move the cursor. I would either have to manually turn it off or wait until it shuts down.

Also, I have an ATI card so no Optimus Technology for me.

well i would just check it out with some other games, if it does the same thing, then u have a hardware issue, if it doesn't ....

I ran Counterstrike Source and Starcraft 2 over an hour each and it hasn't crashed so far.

Is hardware issue. I had the same problem with any game at my old laptop. When i try to play a game my computer crash and that because i had a hight temperatures.


Put another disk at your laptop and try it ;-) You don't need to buy one just take one SATA Disk from a friend and use it.

Also a defrag will be good.

I've only had my laptop for a little over a year, but could it be that dust buildup is preventing the fans from cooling down the laptop properly? I'm thinking it's either that or my hard drive is failing. Although, I doubt it because I can play other games fine. If problem really is dust buildup, I want to know for sure before I open up my computer.

everytime i start a game i ahev a HUGE MASSIVE LAG !!

but it at start when i buy item and after that my game is perfect !!

Ok you can do that:

First e-mail at your laptop company and ask them :-) what is the normal temperature for your laptop.
Example: i have AMD CPU but when i was trying to play GTA IV with full graphics i had temperatures 60+ c. So i search for it at the web and i find at many websites the max temperature is 67 for my CPU... So yeap i had a problem. Finally i ask amd about that. After 2 days i had a answer with a correct information :-)

Also my CPU was 5 months old. And when i clean it i get 10c lower temperatures.

If is possible try to run DOTA 2 at formated and defraged hard disk :-)
Some times that happen because you have a slow disk or because another process like antivirus software trying to check the game files.

how did that work out? i am having the same problem at the moment. really frustrating
