  • Latency issues

    If you could shed some light on the following it would be great. I am from South Africa and would normally ping Europe servers around 220-250ms, I know it is high but for me it is playable. Whenever I play a practice game against bots my ping is fine, around 250ms but whenever I play against players my ping never dips below 400ms.

    When I play a practice game against bots I still receive and send information to the server like a normal game with players? I have tested it throughout the day, early morning and late at night and everytime a practice game's ping against bots is much lower than that of a normal game.

    Do I send and receive more information when playing against real players? The server is still constantly telling me where the bots are and sending my position just like in a normal game, why would I experience such a big difference between practice games with bots and games with players?

    Latency definitely increases with the amount of players. Played a practice game with another player and pinged around 300ms, after that I played with four players and my latency spiked between 350ms and 420ms, predominantly going over 400ms.

    Pinged Amsterdam just before I tested this and got 290ms, played a practice game where I was the only human player and had a stable ping of 260ms too.

      Here is a screenshot where I am in a game with AI bots. I will post another screenshot when I am in a real game, the queue is taking too long at the moment, will upload in a hour or two.

      I capped my frame rate on 30, cl_updaterate 30, cl_cmdrate 30 and the rate was set on 25000.

      As you can see in the above screenshot my latency has gone up with quite an amount. I must admit my latency was very stable and never went beyond 420ms, ideal latency is around 250ms.
