      • We are going to be taking EU East offline for maintenance at 1AM Central European Time (CEST) on Wednesday Sept 25th. We expect this maintenance to take around 12hrs. During this time players will be unable to queue or create games on the EU East region. Other regions will be unaffected.

You do not need to forward any ports in order to play Dota 2 as all play occurs on our dedicated servers. Most routers will work without any changes. If you have trouble connecting, please check the common issues post for help, http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=15261

When you first start Finding a Match in Dota 2, you will be asked which matchmaking regions you wish to queue for. Most players will choose one or two regions close to them for play. You can be in the queue for multiple regions and this can reduce your wait time.

More advanced players may wish to test their ping to various server regions. The best way to do this is to Create Lobby and set the server location in the Lobby Settings to the region you wish to test and launch the lobby. Once you've selected a hero you can type "-ping" into chat and see your ping displayed in the upper right of your screen. Note that the server location setting is based on the actual location of the server (refereed by the city they are located in). You can use the table below to match the server location to the matchmaking region.

            Server Locations

            US West
            Seattle, WA, USA

This thread will be updated when there is an issue with servers. It can also be used as a discussion thread for server issues.

            Enjoy the game!
Can you provide IPs so we can ping before finding a match?

I think the IPs are already posted somewhere, but let me get back to you on that. But still great idea to sticky the IPs.

Oh you can create a custom match select the server where you want to connect and just type -ping. That way you can identify the ping on that server.

Anyway Valve, I have a suggestion regarding this. Would it be possible to add a feature that would display the pings of the servers in matchmaking? I mean like before finding a match, when you're picking what servers to connect? I'm a noob regarding this tech stuff but I think this is doable. Or even a console command that pings all servers at once and display the latencies on the console box.

              • The SEA server is probably reaching its full capacity and getting overcrowded, can you please add another server like in PH?

I liked the idea before; might help the Dota community to grow once again here in the Philippines. Might even outrank other MOBAs/ARTS here in the PH, but I don't think Valve's gonna make PH a special consideration. Besides, another server would just divide the player-base and result to longer matchmaking.

Question though, what happened to the China server? I remember having a China server, but last time I checked there isn't anymore. What happened?

No idea why it jumps to xe-1-0-2.newyork51.new.seabone.net which causes the latency problem imo.

more info on this matter. There are couple of different internet service providers here. One of them is TTNET(biggest one). A friend of mine who is using TTNET did a tracert on 144.66.155.46 he was fine. So TTNET users doesnt have my problem.

I am using SUPERONLINE which is 2nd biggest one. I usually get same latency compared to TTNEt, or better latency most of the time. But thats not the fact when it comes to valve's austria servers.

I have tested my ping from speedtest.net and pingtest.net. They were both fine when i chose austria. (50ms)

Talked to tech guy from SUPERONLINE around 30mins in which ended up him blaming valve servers. So not really sure whats going on. if its servers or isp fault.
