  • Quick question about ports

Hi a few quick questions that probably will either require a yes or no answer or just a few words. I am not very familiar with networking stuff so I just wanted to clarify a few things.

Dota 2 uses the UDP protocol and communicates on ports 27015 through 28999 to our dedicated servers..

    1) Does that mean that it will randomly choose a port in that range? Or is there some kind of order that it follows, for example by default 27015 and will always use that one if available?

    2) Does using the +clientport setting in launch option allow me to set the port that the game will always use? If I type +clientport 27016, dota 2 will always communicate through that port.

    3) if yes for question 2, is there any downside to locking in on a specific port?

    Thank you

    1. Randomly. You can check this when you spectating a game, or playing a game. Open console and type "status".
