  • Dota 2 fps very low and spikes

Hi all, I have been playing d2 for a bit and find my fps very low (we are talking about 10-15 fps), which drops even further in team fights. Also i usually spike during ganks as well as when the creeps spawn at start of the game and around 5-15s mark, which totally screws up my creep block. I have even just given up trying to creepblock.

I have an old computer so it may be the problem. Please assist me so I know which software/ hardware to buy and upgrade. I am not looking for much, a decent 30 fps would be more than enough for me. Also when my settings are set to low, my fps hardly increases (maybe 15-20 now but i cant see any difference).

    Here are my com's specs

What you got there is not made for playing. For first I only thought the Geforce 210 is super weak, but the processor is even worse.
This "thing" isn't even mentioned anywhere. According to some fast googling it should be at the power ~Pentium 3.

Don't upgrade this computer. You can't even realy upgrade it (isn't it even a laptop? Acer emachines seem to be some). Nothing but a new computer will help you here, imo.

EDIT: I've heard the joke: "source can run on a toaster", but each toaster is faster then this computer.
If you think I've closed or deleted a post unjustified, feel free to PM me and I'll explain it to you/discuss it with you further.

Wow, I didnt think it was that bad. I guess I have to get a new comp (yes it is a comp), at least i can be happy with my 50% win rate now with this shitty fps lol.

No wonder my friends thought i wasnt playing serious, when we are playing LAN there's a big difference.

Try writing this in your launch options!!
          -console -novid -nod3d9ex -international -high +fps_max 300 +cl_cmdrate 100 +cl_updaterate 100 -dxlevel 81 +developer 1
And run everything on low,not the render quality set it to medium or so,and try it it may help!

You can also try overclocking your PC if you have a good cooler!

I actually found your CPU and I'm quite wondering. It SHOULD be an AMD Athlon(tm) Processor LE-1640 which is running at 2.6 GHz, in comparison to the 1808 MHz written here (could you measure the speed with CPU-Z while playing?). However, it is a single core. If you want to spend a BIT money, you actually could spend 50 € on ebay for an athlon 64 x2 6000+ (3 GHz dual core) and 50€ for a new Radeon HD 6670. This would be a "bad" computer, but could easily run Dota 2. Another 2 GB of ram for 10€ would also help.

However, this would be spending money on old stuff. I'd rather hold some money together and buy a new one.

Oh, but for first, try some stuff like the commands from TheMrSpinner (although some of them wont help, like fps_max ) before actually paying. Maybe it helps.

Thanks so much for the help.

About the options, -high makes my game weird and i will disconnect. The rest is fine, im running on 20ish fps now. Just the occasional inexplicable spikes now (bad weather? lol).

On overclocking, i would want to do that but is it safe for me to do so considering my PC may be actually at its max performance already? Also how do i know if my cooler is good enough? I could turn on my air-conditioner in the room so it should not be an issue.

Yeah im thinking of getting a new PC. Looking for cheap gaming PCs (dont mind old ones), any to recommend? I am dirt poor so the cheaper the better
