Map/Teambattle awareness were really balanced in wc3 since you couldn't "take advantage" of having a better resolution or a widescreen display; The image would look distortioned but still playable. My native resolution is 1280x1024 and I would appreciate if we could zoom out a little more in 4x3 resolutions since i see clear advantages in playing 16x10 but also disadvantages in having a 4x3 native display . Maybe "zooming out until we can see the whole map" available for everyone?

buy widescreen monitor then. Its like "hey u have better fps, lets make max fps 40 for everyone!". Usually every1 has advantage/disadvantage in something, e.g. fps, ping, now res.
Anyways i dont think its so big disadvantage to see little bit less, like - 10-20% horizontal?

Why should we buy new monitor when it can be fixed?

Well there is no way how to fix it at all.
              U have only 2 solutions:
-Deform screen on widescreen (4x3) resolution. => stupid
-Little bit zoom-out in 4x3 resolution => But i can say too that it will be disadvantage for widescreen resolution, coz u cant zoom out only horizontal part :>
but ye, 2nd option should work with some compromise

i guess making it possible to zoom-out till we can see the whole map would be pretty fair/useful

would be nice to know if this is going to be fixed or I should just go buy a widescreen

obviously there are going to be advantages due to ping/fps. not everyone can choose to have a perfect gaming computer and fiber optic internet. however, you shouldn't be forced to play at a disadvantage just because you play with a different resolution
