i am trying to find command line equivalents of the dota 2 tools, especially the Hammer editor. For example, if i am creating a tree using hammer on a map, by selecting the tile in Hammer, is it possible to do the same via command line execution and supplying the corresponding parameters (eg: co-ordinates of the tile, place to put tree, tree asset id etc etc.).

One use in such cases is that we can create and compile the map dynamically, and many props can be changed each time.

Please advice on how can this be achieved.

That sounds like a very dumb way to do it.

    1. The hammer itself doesn't compile the map, it's compiled by resourcecompiler.exe
    2. .vmap format is a well known dmx-type format. There are tons of tools to work with it.
    3. Furthermore there is save map as text option as hammer which gives even more tools to work it. To convert the map back from text to .vmap format which can be later compiled you can use dmxconvert.exe
