Although its true that posting with a title "best css doc ever (irony)" isn't going to attract the right sort of attention, that doesn't deminish from the value of the point the OP is making.
You seem to forget arhowk that developers who create custom games for Dota2 are adding value to Dota2 for free. (The sort of value which has lead to Dota2 being born in the first place (or are we forgetting the history of Valve's cash cow now?, and the sort of value that has led to Wc3 still having a fairly decent player base 13 years after its release)
The world editor (wc3) suffered from issues as well which were a pain, but that was mostly efficiency problems with natives and memory leaks, that were minor in the majority of things done. It was actually to such an extent that the modders of wc3 created a new edition of the world editor modifying the jass libraries as well as the core settings such as dooddad maximums map size maximums etc.
