  • server_scripts folder

it would be super cool if, in addition the the scripts folder, we had a server_scripts folder that contained code that could be referenced normally by any other code except that the server_scripts code is excluded from the client when it is downloaded from the custom game browser.

I know this will never happen but meh.

Possible uses would be- keeping some kind of encryption key on the server for data saving, hiding "proprietary" code (ugh we shouldnt be helping the jerks at MoD but meh) or just general data that one wouldn't want to be mined.
Every time you have an issue, spend at least 5 minutes on each of these four sites Google, Wiki, Github, and ModDota
If you still can't figure out your issue, post your issue on moddota in as much detail as possible with a SSCCE. If you do not complete these requirements, than you will be rejected by the community. Try not to contact individual users for help as we are very busy.

How would this work if the custom game has no dedicated servers.

Valve had implied that all maps were intended to run on dedicated servers sometime around where they released the 'beta-testing' for the suggested maps list.

      Still hopeful.

If that was never their intention, than it could be something where it is still kept serverside and it is just injected into the server's lua engine on map init.
