  • Re: DOTA 2 Steam Workshop, Poly Limit, Texture Size Limit?

Anyone can give some dependable answers on the following criteria for submitting items to the steam workshop?

I want to know the limits for polycount, texture sizes, and if it's completed through Source SDK. (If it is, it's not working properly)

Also, does Dota 2 SW require triangles or quads?

    Thanks.

Try checking over at Polycount forums. They know a thing or two. They can show you how to extract models for reference too.
Still, I agree with you. I want an official statement.

tris, 512*512, the polycount is about 300-500 maybe a little bit more, it is just guessing from cyborgmatt's blog posts

taken from the steam workshop site:
What are the polycount limits on my items?
Keep the polycount similar to what's already in the game. Try to keep hats under 800 polygons, and weapons under 8,000.

What resolution should my textures be?
Texture sizes should not be larger than 512x512. For hats, 256x256 is usually large enough.

You could just take a look at Dota 2 assets. Nothing exceeds 512x512 for textures, and for polycount the only thing I can say is to keep it to a minimum. Don't try to add something to a model when you can simply do it on the texture.
