  • Avast deleted a file, now i can't play.

I loaded dota 2 from steam about an hour ago and avast told me it detected a threat. Avast then deleted the file form dota 2. When the game loaded it gave me a error in the console that read...

ILocalize::AddFile() failed to load file "resource/closecaption_english.txt".
    CGCClientJobRequestLeaguesWithLiveGames failed to get reply

Since then i have verified the file multiple times, uninstalled avast, and reinstalled dota 2, but keep getting the same error.

Also today, faced with this problem. Add Steam folder to the exceptions Avast. Dota 2 nothing to do with - this is a problem is Avast and Steam.
      Sorry for my english!

I run Avast as well, my friend who runs Avast got this problem and I did not.

I have Game Mode enabled at all times, the Mail, Web, and P2P shields all disabled. For my friend, disabling Avast temporarily, then letting Steam patch (I think that's what he said it did) fixed it. He could then re-enable Avast and there was no conflict.

do avast have some kind of ignore files? I used to had lots of problems with mc afee getting my game files, then I put them in a special mode that they wouldnt be deleted, like telling avast you are sure the file is safe

Dota 2 OS paged memory low issue with anti virus

              I have 1 gb vga, 4gb ram, 5gb paged.
But ever since i installed Norton, Dota 2 ingame there was an error message that read OS PAGED MEMORY LOW.

Its not the issue about Dota 2 or the computer. I found my Antivirus was blocking steam from rewriting memory (cache) so overloads and crashes. I tried to make steam and dota 2 to be excluded from my antivirus but that didnt help, so i uninstalled the antivirus and it worked. no more os paged memory low bullshit.

but the real problem is no antivirus is compatible with steam.

As far as I know (at least in version 5) Avast had an option to prompt the user. If you made it to take action by itself, it's a problem. Never rely on an automated system over which you have no control exactly because of this reason. And yeah, adding it to exceptions should work.
