  • Steamguard restrictions only favor Valve

So, I have multiple accounts - sue me.

I paid for the first one (during beta), the other two are smurfs. I also have five internet connected devices, all of which have access to Steam. Being the wise internet user that I am, I regularly clean out all cookies/history/etc. on my internet browsers (Chrome and IE) and every time I do this it screws with Steamguard.

Valve claims that this restriction is intended to protect accounts, user inventories, etc. In reality, it only protects/benefits one entity - Valve.

So why is it then that I am allowed to SPEND MONEY in the Dota 2 store, using credit cards, PayPal, etc. yet I can't send those items between accounts for 15 days? I can literally disable Steamguard and 30 seconds later make a purchase.. If someone truly intelligent and mischievous were to take my account, do you not think they would want to access saved credit card info, etc. or make purchases behind your back?

The point is, Steamguard is simply a placebo that benefits Valve. It's only there to stop whining kids who lose everything in a trade or bad link because they got greedy and weren't paying attention from crying to Mommy (Valve) about how unfair it is and flooding customer service with QQ tickets. Yet, for some reason, I can make any purchases I want, save credit card info, etc. on an account without Steamguard even enabled. It's a win-win for Valve - purchases can be made and customer service doesn't get so many tickets - screw the rest of us who pay attention, do the right thing, etc.

And honestly, these kids getting scammed deserve to have their stuff taken - take some PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY for losing your items. READ the hyperlinks before you click them! If some stranger is offering you something for FREE, and they speak broken English/Spanish/Russian/Klingon - IT MOST LIKELY ISN'T FOR FREE AND YOU DESERVE TO LOSE EVERYTHING!

So please, stop punishing the majority of us for their mistakes - LET ME SEND STUFF BETWEEN MY ACCOUNTS!

I bought it or it dropped for me - IT'S MINE TO DO AS I PLEASE!

thats not so simple. i have my credit card info saved on my steam account and i only play from an internet cafe and some times i dont even log out of my account when i go out to eat. which generally takes 10- 15 minutes of my pc being unattended. all of the guys in the cafe are my friends well that helps but any1 could litereally buy stuff in a minute and trade it with accounts and i wouldnt even know

All Steamguard does is protect the lowest common denominator (i.e. fools that think they're getting something for OMG FREE!!11!) while blocking folks like myself who just want to trade with their friends and transfer hats between accounts.

I got a sick Sand King rare on my smurf that I can't send to my main because I cleaned out my cookies.. and I'm punished for it.

It depends what country you live in, country's with high credit card fraud have to wait, you don't have to wait from country's like U.S and AUS.
You can also use the steam browser while ingame, that one doesn't require verification.

I'm in the U.S. and I want to trade between accounts. This doesn't help me.
