  • Dota Item Workshop Recent Fixes and Improvements

Recent and new fixes and improvements to the Dota Item Workshop from late April 2016 through The 2016 International Battle Pass release on May 16:
    • Demo mode option buttons added to the item workshop including day/night toggle and model render mode (useful for evaluating item texture values in game)
    • Added a Belt slot for Undying
    • Made Tinker's Back slot texture budget 256x256
    • Winter Wyvern's Back slot bone limit changed to 80 (a rare exception because of the number of hero bones and a slot that covers most of the body)
    • Fixed workshop tool Portrait Save
    • Enabled workshop tool Select Wearable save for item sessions.
    • Fixed Night Stalker zip file download error
    • Corrected Night Stalker’s arm slot texture budget to 256x256
    • Night Stalker's Day and Night versions are now viewable in loadout using an arrow button
    • Updated Night Stalker in-tool testing instructions due to new loadout and demo game options
    • Fixed scaling on Earthshaker reference model
    • Workshop hero reference file updates - Silencer, Earthshaker, Dazzle, Slark, Legion Commander, Ursa, Phantom Assassin

Correction - it's Tinker's Shoulder slot that is now 256x256
And Undying's hero reference file has been updated to reflect the new belt slot.

We just shipped more slot changes to Undying. The belt is now part of the armor slot and the arms are now a separate slot. The Undying reference file has been updated. We are also enabling Undying's Golem in the workshop tool, though submissions won't be possible until we ship a vmat error fix around May 31. Custom Golems will need to use Valve's skeleton and animations. More information can be found here:

Upcoming workshop updates: the code and animation changes needed to correct Venomancer and Shadow Shaman's ward orientation require changes to the workshop processes for these ability models. We'll post when these are ready.

We've just shipped these updates for the workshop:

Created a Valve-only misc slot for Tinker's Immortal Boots so that these can be equipped along with back slot items
Bone limits for Workshop Couriers, Wards and Ability Models that use custom skeletons have been increased to 60 bones
Added Lone Druid's True Form and Dragon Knight's Elder Dragon as officially supported workshop submissions. To function with animation layers and cloth, these need to use Valve's skeleton and animations.
Venomancer and Shadow Shaman ward submissions now need to use Valve's default skeleton and animations in order to function with the new ward aiming code.
Ability Models that have the option to use Valve's default skeleton now have the attach bone names prefilled.
The workshop tool will now generate more accurate hitboxes for ability models that use default skeletons
Corrected the default 'Disabled' animation for the Spirit Bear submission template
Added Undying Golem loadout idle and rare animations with adjusted head angles
Added loadout rare animation to Lone Druid's True Form
Added spawn animation for NP Treants
Added stun and flail animations for Invoker Forged Spirits
Updated workshop hero reference files: Earth Spirit, Medusa, Riki, Faceless Void

We are now able to allow 4 mesh vertices to be skinned to each joint. And the issue where higher-weighted vertices over the limit could be incorrectly removed should now be fixed.

Workshop fixes for the latest update:

              - We've done more refinements to the prioritization when removing weighting that's over 4 vertices per joint - this will now work with multiple meshes.
              - The Animation slider in the Preview Model window of the workshop tool has been fixed
