  • is there way to somehow get textures of the all 3D assets from dota 2 workshop tools?

    Export textures like (colour/diffuse, normal, etc.) into format like png PSD or jpg etc. to use this in any 3D software. Or if cant yet, if it possible to make it in future?

      I can share a way that I use to export stuff into Blender, as in textures and models. For that you will need the Dota 2 tools, GCFScape and ValveResourceFormat.
      For the models:
      1. Launch Dota 2 tools. You will have Asset Browser open by default;
      2. From the tools open Hammer map editor:
      3. In Hammer click File - New. An empty map will appear;
      4. In Asset Browser find the model you want. For example, PA arcana body is pa_arcana.vmdl;
      5. Drag the model from Asset Browser into the Hammer 3D view;
      6. Right click the model, go to Selected Entities - Convert Models to Editable Mesh;
      7. Make sure the model is selected and go to File - Export Selected. Here you can choose the format: fbx/dmx/obj
      For the textures:
      1. In the Asset browser find the desired model;
      2. Right click it and go to Open Related Files in Material Editor
      3. In the Material Editor in the Properties - Compiled Textures tab find any texture and take the note of its directory;
      4. Open GCFScape;
      5. In GCFScape open pak01_dir.vpk;
      6. Navigate to the directory that you have from step 3.
      7. Extract the .vtex_c files - these are compiled textures. The name of the file implies if its a texture/normal/diffuse etc.
      8. Launch ValveResourceFormat (VRF)
      9. In VRF open the extracted .vtex_c file
      10. Once opened go to Export - Export ... as an image. You can export image in PNG format.
      Hope this helps in some way
