  • To those who are complaining about MM, here's why you sometimes do get unlucky.

I have been reading closely about MM problems and from what I've read from the Valve dev, fletcher, I think I understand why sometimes you get matched with people who have much fewer wins and also have much lower MMR. (Yes, I understand that MM does not look at your wins and also your number of wins does not relate to your MMR. However, I'm talking about matches where our teammates both have much fewer wins and also are obviously at a lower MMR than you.)

    Here is my Dotabuff: http://dotabuff.com/players/103317565
(I have 75% of my games in VH: http://pubstats.me/103317565/)

Take a look at this match: http://dotabuff.com/matches/249895986 (normal queue) (The score was 3-41. So yeah, there was something seriously wrong if this is regarded as a balanced match.)

I have 810 wins and my teammates ranged from 50-100 wins. Here's why MM thinks that the match was balanced. The enemy is a 5-stack with 4 players whose wins are 50-100 wins and 1 player (Wisp) with 700+ wins. My teammates are a 4-stack with 50-100 wins and me with 810 wins. So according to this post from the Valve dev, fletcher, the match was balanced even with a very wide spread of MMR.

So yes, the imbalance results from parties with a very wide spread of MMR. Like in my situation, I understand why the match was formed and considered balanced by MM; however, I just got unlucky to be the solo player who had the highest MMR. (Consider another example, if you get matched with a 5-stack which has 2 very high players and 3 normal players, there is a high chance that even if you have a 2-stack including you and a friend who both play very well, you will get matched with 3 normal skill players. And if you don't know this in advance, you might very well pick/random into two supports and helplessly watch two/three lanes feed.)

So I recommend people to solo queue since it is the closest to a balanced match that you'll get since there is no possibility of matching with an imbalanced stack (stacks who go crazy in MMRs).

(The match above was in high and immediately the following match I queued solo, it was in very high again.)

I got used to it... from +20 I have 0 now...ANd I know for sure that one out of 3 games is a win.
Tested that theory: Was on win-lose = -1 -> next game had a team that did managed to win the game without me... even 4vs5! So I have like 90% win chance...I won that game... got to 0 score... next game(bad luck): Picked one of my favorite heroes but 1 player in team failed soo hard that all team blamed him. And we lost it... Today... next game will be win for me At least I know before que if the game will be a lose/win
    This is how Dota2 games should look like! Game 1_Game 2_Game 3_Game 4_Game 5_Game 6

and that is true , even before new Mathmaking , at least my complain is about how significant have drop thr quality of my games , is less competitive and more about having 1 player carry in his shoulders the rest of the team

Something I heavy disagree is the believe of valve , placing noobs with more advanced player is not going to make them learn , they just going to feed , and been non factor even if they team win , because 1 or 2 player are going to do all the hardwork , newbis need TEST their buils , their ideas , and their styles , and practice a lot , and they wont be able to do those stuff if they are facing more skilled player , because they going to think everything they did was wrong and isn't

maybe i'm wrong , maybe i'm right , but should be looked again , but new mathking is not better than the old
( sorry my english, i'm going to sleep )

I've had ridiculously unfair matches even in solo queue. Dota 2's MM is broken as hell.

        Match ID: 251428807

The fucking lycan literally farmed creeps all game and wasn't in a single teamfight. The bounty hunter demanded mid and didn't gank all game. Somehow, this match was in VHS. Does *anyone* want to explain to me how this happened.
Let's make a game called Dota 2. You put 5 players on each team and then you mute 4 of them so they can't communicate. That way, we have a fucking clown festival in every single fucking game.

Excellent system! Very smart! Well played! 5/5 would mute again.

          "unlucky"

whenever I queue with a shitty smurf that has 80% win rate and 30 games or so, I end up on front page. valve officially killed mmr

hontrash: I am sorry but I do not understand what is bad about this? It's a new account with only 30 games, this is almost no data to work with, considering that it is a 10 player game. The rating will get more precise as you play more.

Are you trying to get the best out of me or what? Before this garbage patch which impacted the MMR, the 30 win account would face other 30 win accounts or somewhere close to that number.
Hey I'm not complaining, it's just funny solo queueing with a shitty smurf account and I end up on front page because of massive win rate on a low win account.

This didn't occur before the patch.
