  • Question: MM broken or Mute system too lenient?

A lot of people are claiming that the quality of their games has gone down recently.

A lot of people are blaming the matchmaking.

A lot of people are behaving very badly since they realised that they're unlikely to be punished anymore.

So my question is, could it be that the problems of low quality matches are actually caused by players acting up too much rather than a problem with the matchmaking?
    To avoid LPQ:

    Don't draw attention to yourself
Don't use voice or chat except for 'ss'
    Mute all at lvl 1
    Only play in parties
    Get alternate accounts
Limit your usage to one or two games per day per account
    Don't play too well
Don't play on Sunday or Monday
Wait until the developers reset LPQ status

If you're getting matched with trolls or feeders:

You may have been placed in a hidden pool. There is no known way out of this, apart from moving to a different account.

Of course. I could throw if I wanted to. I could pick a hero I have no experience with if I wanted to. I could not use my mic if I wanted to. I could have 1000 wins and just play bad if I wanted to. MM is not predictive of behavior and the people that blame MM instead of humans kind of baffle me. Like, the problem is right in front of you. It's people. If you can't deal with people I don't know what to tell you

You Valve Knights said this same shit before the July 17 patch which explicitly stated that there was a bug in the matchmaker that was causing it to insufficiently segregate players based on win count.
We need a player review system like Overwatch for DotA 2. Get real people to judge communication abuse, intentional skill abuse, and intentional feeding.

Unlikely. You seem to be assuming that a stringent punishment system leads to players' playing the game and not "acting up." But we've seen that that just isn't the case. "Disruptive" players rage ping spam (or used to, at least), chat wheel spam, and courier feed when muted.

Is there a reason why these horribly played matches never existed before the changes to the MM system? Before the patch, I never had any flamers or feeders, now, almost every game I get some noob flaming and feeding the entire game, thanks to the awesome developers.

The MM changes all the time, but the announcement about the bug fix was shortly after the report system was toned down a lot. Just enough time for the community to build up a head of steam with aggressively testing its boundaries. It's difficult to say exactly which are the causes and effects, but bad attitudes and terrible games certainly seem to be a lot more frequent than they were.

Agreed. Complaining about the matchmaking died away somewhat while people raged about the mute system. Now that everyone has calmed down about that, we've merely reverted to the previous satte, blaming the matchmaking.

They did. I find there's a lot less flaming now than there was before the mute system was introduced.

Feeding is always going to be a problem, as long as you're not specifically talking about intentional feeding.

However, it has never looked at your historical win rate and put you in a game where it knew that you were expected to lose.
Is every post on this forum about the Dunning-Kruger effect?

mm was trash since dota2 was being made and it wont change unless valve decides to do so. But they need a lot more money from starters who would quit and not buy any cosmetics if they would not get easy wins by forced 50/50

Everyone has "calmed down" because it's harder than ever to get muted. We had that fracas last month because of Valve's genius employees who thought that renewable reports would work with a 2/2/48 threshold.

The mute system should not even EXIST in the first place.

Why shouldn't it? I don't think anyone sane enjoys negative communication

That doesn't answer my question, stop trolling, we both know the system is working fine, the difference is that you don't admit it.
