  • Australian Servers, No Australian Players

What I mean by this is that me and my friends, who speak English, will queue for a game on an Australian server. Yet as soon as we get into a game every single person on our team is from South East Asia or some other country that doesnt speak English. As you know Dota is a team game and it is all but impossible to play properly with everybody speaking a different language. I mean this wouldnt be too much of an issue if was every now and then, but its gotten to the point that every game without fail is filled with non-English speakers. I just played a game where everybody was Spanish (SPANISH people on Australian servers?) and I literally had to open up Google translator to be able to barely communicate with them. Why hasn't this been fixed already? Why can't valve just implement something that restricts players to their own damn servers. Surely Australian players (if there are any) can understand my pain. I might even have to quit before I die of a rage induced heart attack. I know that because Dota has been released that there are alot of new players but that shouldn't mean I have to play with foreigners every single game. I have scrolled through the forums and I know there are dozens of threads like this but I don't care I'm adding another one, here you go.

I found it depends on what hours you play as to who gets on the Australian servers. During the day you are asking for trouble there will be barely any English speakers on it. After 5pm Brisbane time though the quality goes up dramatically, I would be hard pressed to find someone who is not an English speaker ater 5pm for me personally.

I feel your pain. im in australia and had the same issues.
Even worse, being muted after being reported by russians for not speaking russian - on the australian server - with English Language selected (only). Yeah, uninstalled right then and there. I'll admit that i probably 'over-raged' and will reinstall... maybe.

How many languages is there to select in the language filter? 3
How many languages are somewhat common in DotA?.....

          There you go

Is it really the player's fault?
Make a NON automated report system.
I would rather wait 10 minutes for a balanced, fun and exciting match that will last 1+ hours. Than wait 10 seconds for a poorly balanced crapmatch that will end in 30- minutes
Valve, How I'm I supposed to respect certain boundaries to prevent a mute if I dont know them because they are different for each and every person on each and every game I play?
The only type of player that dislikes having his stats public are the players that suck and cheaters

I get your point, this is Valves problem - but I played on my local server, selected my local language and i got muted for not talking in a language that is from country on the opposite side of the globe.

Poor server/language choice is valves problem - but valve didn't ask my teammates to be douchebag trolls.

I dont support region-locking, i DO support 'language locking' though (locked by the player and not by valve)

I select ENGLISH because I speak English, however my native language is SPANISH and I'd prefer to select that, sadly the option doesn't exist but I CAN COMMUNICATE IN ENGLISH...what would I do if I spoke only Spanish and there was not that option? all you have left to do is select English or any other

Again, since the report system is 100% automated (They say its "Semiautomated" but that simply means it needs players to report you, however the decision whether you are punished or not is 100% automated) they simply gave trolls a MUTE and LOWPRIO club to smash other players with, again I don't see that as a "Player's problem" because valve is giving them the tool to do it, hoping they use it honourably..you go ahead and tell me thats working, again, that was a choice made by valve.

Region locking is indeed a bad idea, I think a lot of people like me have friends all over the world

However having the OPTION to LOCK so that you can ONLY play with people who speak your selected languages would be pretty good once/if they implement more options for languages, otherwise it would be pointless as people would still select English even if they don't speak it.

It would most likely increase your search time but that would be YOUR choice

I also suggested giving the player the option of increasing and decreasing their own search range for balanced/casual matches, giving us the option to sacrifice balance for shorter search times and the other way around, and it would be our choice if we do it.

I've never had that issue, there is always 3-4 other players that can speak english. Even if they have a thick accent they'll still speak english.

                    Quoting myself from PD forums:
I'm from Argentina and speak both Spanish and English.

Since there is no option for Spanish in the language settings I must queue for English games. Only English, Russian and Chinese are selectable.

There are only 3 servers I can play with a decent ping: South America, US East and US West. SA 100ms, USE/W 180ms.

South America server is ~90% Brazilian, who speak only Portuguese (no Spanish, little English.) Since I don't speak Portuguese, I can't queue here if I want to have decent communication with my team.

So my only options are US servers. With region locking I would be unable to queue here, and thus unable to enjoy my favourite game the way I like.

The only way I would quit playing in US servers is adding more languages to choose from. This ensures you only queue with people you understand, because now it's impossible for me to play in the server I have the best ping to.

english basically is my fourth language and still i have to que for it why ? because my native languages arent included in que options(hindi marwadi marathi) and i know there are many people in here who cant speak english and still like to play the game u cant really blame the people for queing up in different servers and speaking different languages.

It's the state of Dota2 atm. No matter where in the world you queue, you're surrounded by poorly educated 3rd world countries who's gaming population is outright cancerous. Go to EU-W? Teenage Russians ruining games. Go to US-E? South Americans yelling at you. This game sucks if you speak English. It really does.

I've given up on pubs myself.

I play on the Australian server and don't have games with non-english speaking players. There are asians and filipino players that have english as their 2nd language, but there are so many asians and filipino people in New Zealand so of course they will queue on the Aus server. Can't say I have ever experienced spanish speaking people in my games.

To clarify my earlier post... russians dont bother me - being reported and muted despite following the 'rules' bothers me.
I was not complaining about the nationality of those i was grouped with. I honestly dont care where my teammates come from. I dont care if they cant speak any english either, theres a chat wheel and pings to get around that.

I AM annoyed that i can be reported, muted and LPQ'd for speaking english - when i did everything correctly (as far as ingame options are concerned). I selected Sydney server, I selected english language. I get muted for not speaking russian.
No matter what explanation is provided to me - it doesn't make sense. "Its automated" is a reason, but it still does NOT make sense!

TL;DR it is the reporting/muting that bothered me - not the 'russians' , they were just the example
