  • Matchmaking in a nutshell

So I won a few games in row:
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=168517831

It was inevitable that I then start to get this:
    http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfile.../?id=168933171

I would play more but matchmaking isn't working for me right now. I also am tempted to only play with my friends now since the teammates I had gotten in those three matches have been absolutely horrendous and really don't see the point in playing since I know it will be a definite loss so that matchmaking can balance out the wins.

well yeah, matchmaking is totally RETARDED predictable. its quite simple - win a few games in a row and you will be put together with worst feeder nubs online. no mater how good you play, you'll lose

the only way to avoid this is to play with a full team of people you know, and which aren't notorious nub feeder who dont even know what items to build...

Happens to me all the time.

It's like the game is punishing you for doing good or something, it's very obnoxious.

Awhile ago I heard some stuff that, apparently, Matchmaking was going to try and match good players with players who were in lower skill brackets so that the good players could teach the less skilled ones or something. I have NO idea if any of that was true, or if it's still around, but if it is, it's likely the cause of why you can do great for 10 games in a row and then suddenly get a bunch of feeding shit-talkers and the game becomes totally unplayable and hopeless.

Also, what a nice run-on sentence.

That doesn't even make sense. Who is going to want to enter a game where they have to hold the hand of everyone on their team? We enter the game to have fun playing the game, not giving lessons every game. And even if you try to help the bad players and tell them what to do, they'll act like they KNOW what to do and will instead be the ones telling YOU what you should be doing. You ask necro to buy wards on a team full of carries, he responds "lol no I'm a carry, Tiny go get it"

I have no idea if that's how it really is, but if it IS, it needs to stop.

Like you've said, it does no good. If a player doesn't want to teach, they're not going to. You can't force them. And if a player doesn't want to learn and be taught, it's the same damn thing.

If they want something like this, there needs to be a "coach" queue, where people can queue either to be a student or a coach, and you can get into matches where the coach can, well, coach you on what to do and possibly have some different tools to assist them with that. I.E., the match would be more about a learning experience and less about actually trying to win and play the game and stuff. That way it's a simulated gameplay experience for both teams, and both teams can even help each other in their learning.

Much better than just trying to fucking slam people together and say "OKAY THIS IS HOW IT IS, YOU HAVE A GOOD MMR, CARRY THESE LOW MMR RUSSIANS WHO WILL TRASH TALK AND FEED".

I haven't played with Russians in a long time and when I do they're not really the problems. It's mostly either South Americans with 400ping, or English speaking players. I just wanted to point that out so Valve doesn't think "Matchmaking is fine, we just need to remove Russians from English pools"

I've mentioned that's what they're doing. I'm not thinking they should be doing it, but they're doing it anyways. Why are they doing it? Because they are too lazy to add the coaching system, so this is a placeholder coaching system at the moment.

What makes this really annoying is that because of this, we also have a placeholder matchmaking system at the same time!

After each winning streak I always know that the next games are going to be awful with allot of my teammates feeding, my best winning streak according to dotabuff is 9 and my loosing streak is 10 , guess what!Yup the loosing streak came right after the 9 games winning streak. If matchmaking isn't supposed to be like this then valve doesn't know it themselves. VOLVO PLS FIX <3

Yeah, the concept of matching high-rated and low-rated players is kinda crazy to me. I'm thinking of ladder systems I've played in. Basically, things where everyone starts at 1500 and if you win you go up and if you lose you go down. Game should seek to fit people into games where 10 players are within 100 or so points of each other, not try and balance out 2 1800 rating players with a 1500 and 2 1350's which is what it seems like it does.

I guess the concept gets more tricky when you consider people who queue with friends or as a stack, but it should still be quite manageable.

It's really dumb ! In most of my matches i have a teammate that is such a noob and only the LP keeps me from DISCONNECT. It's ridiculous to have level 71 and be paired with players that don't know the game basics. More of that, these newbies are very rude and ultra impulsive when i tell them what to do and WHY should do.

I feel you bro, once i had 2 pages all wins...
then got 5 losses in a row due to intentional feeds ..
matched up by same person who intentionally fed 3 times and 1 time he was on opposite team... fed too.

Ya the abandons are from bad teammates, especially when I was first starting dota. I came from lol and had all the basics down perfectly, like last hitting, positioning map awareness etc. It was matching me up with people who just knew nothing. My only legit ragequits from my play was stuff like tower diving with Axe, being attacked by the entire creep wave and tower, needing one spin and not getting it, and doing rosh with lycan and dying with one hit left on Rosh.

                              I don't get it.
You won 11 games in a row and mm is fine.
But you lost 3 games in a row and now the match making is broken?

                              Interesting.
